Our fresh take on a boldly hoppy brew – an India Pale Lager (IPL) – with a burst of citrusy hop character with notes of grapefruit and orange and a hint of sweetness. Brewing innovation is about asking “what if?” What if we gave an IPA a second identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, and tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy and flavorful brew with a crisp lager smoothness.

Big nose on this one, citrus and pear. Pours a medium gold body with a hint of orange topped with a white frothy head that lasts well and leaves good lace. Body is thinish but this is a lager. Carbonation is nice. Flavor is not complex, quite clean and dry. A hint of lemon, sme grass and grain, just s touch of sweetness in the end, the hops appear to be aroma and bittering, not much typical hop flavors, surprisingly well balanced between hops and grassy flavors. Very drinkable.

Outstanding brew from the folks in Boston. Orange/amber pour with medium white head. Fair amount of lace on the glass. The aroma is a light citrus. Very subtle yet memorable hop presence. Must have again!

On tap at Bearden Beer Market: golden pour, tall white head, nice lacing. Surprising hops nose and initial flavor, then subdued with malty sweet, but hen the hops come right back, spicy and inviting, citrus and bitter, great linger too. This is a lager? It is now. Welcome to the New World. Boom - love it!

Sampled on 7/5/2013. This Imperial Pilsner pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing and nice retention. The aroma is citrusy, hoppy and bready. A medium bodied Imperial Pilsner. The malts are bready, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy, floral and slightly piney. Decent carbonation. Nice balance. Crisp and clean. Nice malts at the start with some nice lingering at the finish. Slightly spicy, with some of the grape skin Nelson Sauvin character. An interesting beer. Very drinkable, its hoppy like an IPA, but has that malty sweeter character of a lager. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is somewhat bitter.

I may have waited a little too long on this, but it IS before the date and still pleasantly hoppy and floral. Tropical fruits, citrus and a hint of pine. Light in body, so as not to be cloying. Solid brew. Best new one I've had from them in a while.

Nice, an India Pale Lager. Part of their Spring Thaw mixed pack. Rich golden colour with a frothy off-white head that stays very long, and creates thick foamy lacing. Beautiful full IPA Cascades hoppy nose with the typical grapefruit notes. The difference is in the taste. Pretty much the same, but much milder. Still, the grapefruits and pines are present. I really enjoyed this switch on the style, from ale to lager.

This may be the best of Samuel Adams I've had. A bright sunshine tinted light amber colored beer. A big fluffy textured, off white head rising above. There was good hang time on it. With it tilt a film blankets the sides of the glass. A bold citric nose. Nice blance of orange-citric and lighter sweet malt tasting. Full bodied, cramy and refreshing. Sorry I didn't pick up more

An India Pale Lager? Gotta love it! Robust aroma has a very strong hoppy component, a sour citrus underpinning, and a hint of crisp lager malt. It pours a nice clear amber with a fairly thick ivory head. Hoppy flavor has nicely balanced woody and resiny components, with citrus and malt peeking through. Firm, smooth texture dances on the tongue, delighting with a hoppy and fruity finish. One brew experiment that makes the grade. If not Sam's best, definitely worth a try.

Pours a yellowish orange with a frothy white head. Smell is strong with hops, citrus, pine and subtle sweetness. Taste is more subtle then the smell would suggest. Hoppy all the way through the sip but they aren't strong till the end/aftertaste. There is some malt and citrus at the beginning and ends with the strong hop punch. A nice medium mouthfeel, good body for this beer. Overall an enjoyable beer.
