The old Hainaut beer style of Saison was produced at every brewery in the region around the beginning of the last century. In homage to the founder of the Brewery who brewed this beer for the "Cayoteux" (local quarrymen), the tradition of this refresging sweetish amber ale was revived in 1982. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and one to enjoy during your favourite moments....................................................................Original Alcohol Content (circa 2005) was 5.2%

Light opaque dark yellow, white lasting, lacing foam head. Light barley aroma, fruity tones in taste, some vanilla indeed present. Nice, but not special. (Arnhem 201608)

Pours a murky light orange with a small white head that settles to a film on top of the beer leaving foamy rings of lace on the glass. The aroma is of grains and some grapes. The taste is of grains, honey, and some grape-like fruity flavors. This beer has a high level of carbonation with a very nice mouthfeel.

Sampled on 10/9/2009. This saison pours a slightly hazy medium orange color from a 33cl bottle. Large sized white foamy head with nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is intensely fruity and floral with some spices. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and very sweet. Hints of berries and vanilla. Hops are floral. Light and refreshing. Nice lively carbonation. Perhaps not as spicy as most saison, but it still has that saison like balance and flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours out in a clear dark yellow colour with a huge eruptive and extremely long lasting white head. Funky and grainy aroma of yeast, white bread, dough, anise-seeds, yellow fruits and cardamon. Medium-bodied with touches of toasted bread, yeast, dried oranges, crackers, burnt sugar and dryish spicy hops. yeasty and funky finish of dough, spunned sugar, hay and mild pepper.

Part of the 8-pack Christmas special from Brasserie Lefebvre. Best before date written on back label is L05102007. Pours a hazy caramel colour with a big creamy off-white head, that creates thick chunky lace. Retention is great and carbonation is steady with very tiny bubbles. Nice... just like the description says, quite refreshing. The nose has characteristics of a Flemish Sour, but instead of the sourness, has rust and spices. Smooth mouthfeel, more on the watery side with a mild creamy edge. Good spicy taste that stays into the aftertaste, with some fruity apples and citrus that shows up. Again, a very refreshing and satisfying saison.

Bottle: Poured an yellow color beer with a huge head with super great retention (head even stick to side of glass after each sip). Aroma is malty with some sweetness and some yeast in the background. Taste is very refreshing with some good malt surrounded by a light spice mix and some yeast in the finish. Would probably have enjoyed it even more if there had been more spices in the mix – it king of ends up being a light saison. Still very refreshing and enjoyable though.
