Specifications: Alcohol by Volume: 6.4-7.4 The mystique created by the rich darkness of Royal Extra The Lion Stout conveys strength, potency and Virility. The brand was inherited from Walters’ Brewery, Port of Spain in 1952 and was reformulated by Carib Brewery to achieve its 6.6% ABV, distinctively sweet, full bodied texture and taste. Royal Extra is unique and immediately identifiable as the "Black Bottle" drink, embodying the personality of the lion – majestic, powerful and potent. Royal Extra The Lion Stout continues to be a favourite among young emerging drinkers who display avid interest in popular dancehall and reggae music. For months, you?ve been putting together a winning presentation for a promotion at work. Someone else is competing for the position and although they are favoured by the higher-ups, you know that you are more deserving of it. You?ve never been one to shy away from a challenge and you won?t start now. The opposition only adds fuel to your determination to succeed. Its presentation day, and your competing colleague and the entire board are waiting for you and like a lion, preparing to capture his prize you step into the room with a quiet but obvious confidence which grabs the attention of your directors and intimidates your competition who realises that you won?t leave empty handed. This full-bodied, lightly carbonated, molasses coloured stout explodes with flavour from the first mouthful. Hints of caramel, chocolate, coffee and even fruit combine with the smokiness of roasted barley to give consumers an unforgettable, additive-free experience. The majestic power and confidence of the lion are mirrored by the drink?s ability to arouse the same qualities in both male and female consumers who admire and desire individuality and strength.

I tried this beer on September 23, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured black with a thin tan coloured head. The aroma was chocolate and plums. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour waas roasted malt, raisins, plums, and chocolate. A little sweet for me.

kinda reminds me of a black ale/lager as much as a stout. mainly dry and roasty with some chocolate coming through as well. highly quaffable, not too complex. personal beers of the world #1.

Pours a nice dark chocolaty sable with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, light tan head. Aroma is nice and smoky with odd fruity and yeasty hints, not strong but still inviting. Flavor is quite pleasing, like quality roast coffee with firm hints of sweet chocolate and molasses. Texture is very smooth, just a little tingly; finish is smoky and a little sweet.

Poured black with a frothy cocoa colored head. Aroma was of sugar and malt. Decent mouthfeel but I found the flavor very sweet. I was reminded of Dragon Stout from Jamaica but with a much lighter body. Not bad but could have been a bit less sweet for my taste.

Actually, mine was brewed in St Kitts and Nevis, although still by Carib Brewery, and came in a tiny 9.3oz (275ml) bottle. The pour produced a solid three fingers' worth of fluffy light brown head topping off a body of near black opaqueness. Aroma was quite nice, with highlights of coffee and malts. The taste, however, was by far too sweet and essentially ruined what could've been a fairly good beer. There were the flavours of dark chocolate, malts, and lots of coffee at play. Good mouthfeel and finish, at least.

The Lion Stout. A black bodied brew. Unfortunately there is little head on pour. A little disappointing there. But the aroma is sweet caramel. The taste adds a hint of coffee. in that there is little complexity for the discerning Stout and Porter drinker.

Who knew Trinidad brewed beer? I certainly didn't, but in one weekend I was able to try a couple of them. The first one I tried was the Carib Royal Extra Stout. It's a blackish beer. There is very little head. The aroma is roasted malt and coffee. The flavour is strong coffee with a hint of alcohol

I went into the store looking for my favorite porter but they were out. I grabbed some of this stout instead. Stout is really too sweet for my tastes but I wanted to try this carib version. My impression is that this was made to compete with some mixed drinks or rum coolers at local bars. Tastes/smells reminisant of rum and coke to me. Definately unique as a stout. Nice for a change but I won't be going back for more any time soon. Not my drink. Well made great body and mouth feel but too sweet to drink all the time.

Slightly less bold and lacking the rich texture and strong flavour that some of the other foreign stouts hold together so well. A little thin, alcohol a little obvious. Both scent and taste are not quite tied in together well enough.
