Black color with chocolate brown foam. Bitter chocolate smell and taste, something else, but can’t place it. Interesting beer. Bitter long lasting aftertaste. (Houston 201205)

Aromas of plum, prunes, molasses, coffee, and roasted malts, flavor shares all the same qualities with the fruit jumping to the front, chocoalte along with some hops and alcohol mixed in as well. Overall a nice stout.

This is a great stout. A deep solid brown pour. There is a ton or roasted malt, nuts, and chocolate in the aroma. The flavour is an alcohol based chcolate milk. Nice and sweet, and yet dry at the same time. Scrumptious.

Ingredients: Water, Malt, Hops, and Yeast....Plain and simple. A nice chocolate stout with good hop finish. Balance close to perfect for this style. Similar to the new Guiness Foreign Extra. This is my first sample from Pike and is a nice start. Solid beer that I would try again.

Quite a thick dark beer with a thick dark head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, some licorice and alcohol. A thick mouthfeel but not cloying. Flavor is well roasted, lots of sweet malt. Extra Stout is a perfect name for this beer.

Pours pitch black, not much of any head just a thin tan ring. Aroma is decent, roasted coffee. Mouthfeel is dry. Flavor is dark chocolate and coffee.

A jet black colored beer. My kinda beer. A small frothy textured tan head rises above. It settles disappointly all too quickly. The lacing is nearly absent, some film, a needle thin ringlet. Dark roasted malt and coffee in the nose as it is so richly in the flavoring. Thick, low carbonated, syrupy. So many good things I have a fondness of in stouts and porters. So much, this one falls short in what I’ve come to expect.

Comes out of the bottle a rich, oily, opaque sable with a thick and fairly persistent fine-bubbled tan mead. Aroma is rich and smoky with firm tones of quality coffee and brown sugar - most inviting. Flavor is even better than the aroma - richly of roast fine coffee, unsweet chocolate and molasses, the flavors I like best in a stout. It is only slightly sweet and has a touch of bitterness. Texture is thick, smooth, oily and tingly. This is one lip-smacking stout, worth seeking!

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a Pike beer... where will this go? Black beer with a dark brown cap, good consistency, really good lacing with sticky messy lacing and permanent rings. The aroma is damn fine. A bit of sweet and freshness (from the hops for sure - a light citrus), soft chocolate with a bit of bakers bitterness, some roasty stuff from coffee. I like the citrus in here. Nothing here is overpowering. A touch earthy. Man, this is an excellent drinking beer. Very well placed bitterness, creamy chocolate blended with a lesser amount of coffee grinds. I can tell there are citrusy hops (grapefruit) here but they are portioned very well. Maybe a bit too bitter on the finish as it lingers heavily. There might bit a hint of biscuit as well. Smooth with a bit zip, some lingering coffee, long hop finish but it’s good because it takes nothing away while adding some needed complexity. I may be ignoring the coffee. I need more!
