Creamy head smooth carbonation complements its deep mahogany color. Bouquet teems with chocolate, apple and clove. Roasted malts intertwine with the Tettnanger hops to create a depth of complex flavors. Smooth roasted malts and dark caramel leads to clean finish - unlike any other dark beer

Bottle at " Mondial de la Bière 2009 " in Strasbourg. Poured a amber brown colored ale with a thin slight beige foamy head that had no retention. The aroma is roasted malts, fruity, apples, nuts. The flavour is aggressivily aciditic, notes of chocolate and cloves. The mouthfeel is very crispy. This light bodied beer has a malty and sourish finih. Not at all according with the style. Disappointing.

I did not enjoy this beer at all because it did not taste like a traditional dunkelweizen. The very strong burnt malt flavor was apparent both in the aroma and palate throughout the beer. The burnt malt flavor was so strong that I did not notice any wheat beer characteristics. That's a shame because I enjoy drinking dunkelweizens.

Beer poured like a cola, but with less head. Aroma was banana-like esters. The flavor also had a huge ester/phenol like flavor which was not quite banana, but not entirely pleasant. Some roastiness and maybe a little chocolate, but not enough to balance the phenol flavor. Thin as well. Not great.

Sampled on draft at the HPWBC tasting room. The appearance was decent, dark brown, some cloudiness, but not extreme, the head about average, maybe a little weak? The aroma was coffee and roasted malts, hard to detect wheatiness underneath. The flavor also seemed to have a bit too much smoke/roast and dark malts, to the point where the wheat wasn't as prominent as it could have been. Not a bad beer (I grabbed a sixer of it), but not among my favorites within style. Re-rate: from the sixer I picked up, not much has changed. The clove/phenolic character increased a bit (along with some carbonation), but this thing looked subpar, tasted too smoked, almost peat smoked, and had only minor wheat dryness as an accent. Too strong on the roasted and smoked malts.

Poured a brown amber color with a small, off white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, caramel, banana, nuts, and some light spices. Taste of caramel malts, chocolate, earth, light banana, citrus fruits, but a rather thin mouthfeel overall.

This beer had a deep brown color. It had a very thick head when it was poured. The flavor was mediocre, the most noticeable flavor was of roasted malt, there was also a slight yeast flavor.

Deep amber brown color, slightly cloudy with a medium thick head. Slightly sweet yeasty malt aroma and a slightly sweet flavor with yeasty undertones.
