A Black Farmhouse Ale, a freaking Black Saison. You have my attention. Near black pour, tight charcoal tan head, some lacing. Roasted malts a'plenty meet Galaxy hops and Brett. Yes. You read correctly. Nice funk and Brett qualities, yeasty, then fruity and citrus zest, then honeysuckle sweet and tart and then coffee and light roasties then Juicy Fruit gum. Mind blown. Wonderfully different ale. Took balls to brew this puppy.

What starts out smelling like a good black ipa has a little more hidden under the surface. All citrus peel and dark roast at first, then juuust a little underlying funk which comes out more as it warms. The body is nice and hides the abv well. Flavor is more balanced between Saison like qualities, citrusy bitter hops and coffee. Another wonderful beer by Prairie - just wish they were a bit more reasonably priced.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge creamy tan head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is wheat malts with some roast and a slight tart note with some fruit and some funk.
The flavor is roasted wheat malts, chocolate and some funky yeast with piney hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a nice dark and hoppy saison. Good balance of wheat, roast, hops and funk. -

Wow. This was a surprise. No offense, but who knew something so kick-ass could come from OK (ok, that sounded awful). The beer pours out an almost-black body, almost-clear with an incredibly cream 3" head with some nice lasting power. Very, very brettish in nature in the aroma, roasted malts...almost coffee like. Fruity...seems like some yeasty esters coming up too. Lots of brett-like flavors, very sharp and bittersweet. The flavor morphs from brett/barnyard-y to roasted malts and coffee..some pepper in there too. Crazy and complex but it worked really well for me. Who are these guys again? -

Pours a black body with a little plum color to it. Appears to be quite cloudy. Nice big beiege head. Some ok lace is left behind. Aroma is a mix of tangerines, blackberries, mangoes, grapefruits. Some light roastiness. Just a little chocolate background maltiness. Some nice funky, earthy flavors add a level of complexity. The taste is full of those fruity hops with some dark malt character and saison and brett funk. It starts with sweet, tart blackberries and pineapples before heading into drier, funkier flavors of cocoa, grapefruit and earth. Citrus, wood and funk in the finish.

Rich brown color and happily cloudy. I got aromas of orange with its peel, cinnamon, and something floral. It has a great hop bitterness, like orange peel, but doesn't bite-- it's very smooth and balanced. Like Hannah, I'm a little at a loss for words in describing the flavor. I told mwiscount, who had just mentioned olives, that the flavor and texture reminded me of unbrined green olives. Power of suggestion? Perhaps, but I enjoyed this very much.

This is another OK surprise beer from Hannah! Popping the cork made it fun! The "wine nature" continued to flow as I drank this wine, it was warm going down, just like I feel when I enjoy wine. Very dark rich color, lots of hops but with a nice fruit aroma. What got my attention is the name: Funky Galaxy in the Prairie Artisan Ales Series - a Galaxy Hopped Black Farmhouse Ale. Even more? What was printed on the label: Made by People that Truly Care from Oklahoma with Love. Got to always appreciate and be grateful for the special touches when you least expect them! Positivity also flows out of this brew! Cheers Hannah!

Just released today, I eagerly sampled this unusual ale from Oklahoma's newest label. Shows black, thinnish not oily, with creamy, lasting head. Pour carefully as my bottle contained a good bit of sediment. Bright citrus and unexpected tropical notes meet roasted malt in the aroma; I was caught off guard when I popped the cork. I am struggling for the best words to describe the flavor (everything about this ale really). Clever and unique come to mind. I have never had a galaxy hopped black farmhouse ale before; go figure Way outside the box as well as the style guidelines for any beer. 8% abv and it feels every bit that strong with notable warming. Thought provoking sampler that I am likely to revisit.
