In the area of Poperinge, which is a little town in the west of Belgium, harvesting hops is a main industry and art. In the local dialect hommel means hop and therefore we have used the dialect to give our product a name: Poperings hommelbier. In order to brew this beer, we use a blend of 3 types of hops. In addition, the presence of hops in the beer are strong, enhancing its flavour and refreshing, slightly bitter taste. Hommelbier is a beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. Therefore, a layer of ferment is still present at the bottom of the bottle. This beer has a unique distinction of being a completely natural beer.

Had this fresh in Poperinge during the Hopfest. Despite the name which translates to Hop beer in the local dialect, the brew had only a subtle aroma and taste of hops. It was well balanced and quite drinkable.

Drank staight from bottle so cann’t tell color or foaming. Aroma is pretty hoppy, some sweet (caramel or fruity). Taste is nice and bitter, somewhat high carbonated. Nice tripel style bitter aftertaste. (Amsterdam 201210)

A murky orange colored beer with a big frothy textured white head rising robustly above. It settles eventually into a thin ringlet and splotches of film. Grassy, spiciness. Light, highly carbonated and refreshing.

Interesting combination of light carbonation, rich bitterness, a hint of sweetness. A true sipping brew that is best by its self. Small bottle, but full of flavor.

A fairly bitter, but not overly hoppy Belgian brew. Confirmed as a Belgian IPA, I found it to be more like a noble dry hopped Saison. Cloudy orange yellow pour with a huge, fizzy white head and ample lacing. Fruity and yeasty aroma with a grassy scent. Refreshing with high carbonation and lighter in body. Great medley of flavors from fruity zest to biscuit with some spices and grassy hops mixed in.

Poured a hazy, wheaty color with a thin white head that produced great lacing. Rich in the mouth fading to thin on the finish. Great lemon/wheat flavors. Very Belgian.

Sampled on draught: Pours a clear golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is pleasent, pineapple and floral notes. Noticeably yeasty, wheat lemon and clove flavors. Slight metallicy finish.

This poured a dark golden color with a rather large head. The aroma is spicy and also contains some lemons, apricots, and floral notes as well. The flavor is somewhat sweet with a bit of alcohol noticeable. The flavor contains some lemons, honey, and spices present. The finish is slightly bitter and the mouthfeel is quite carbonated. Overall a well balanced nice beer.

(best before Nov07) Poured into a snifter similar to that depicted in the photo here. Apricot nectar in color, with a thin white cap, without lacing. Fragrance of yeast and nuts, with a slight hop note. Medium bodied mouthfeel, with tingly carbonation and a warm, unobtrusive alcohol presence. Flavor notes of some mild pine and citrus, and less hopped than I'd expected, but probably considerable for its type. I like it, and it's a nice wrap-up to my "Belgian and Belgian-like" tasting weekend.
