Thousands of years ago the ancient Mayans of Central America developed a "Long-Count" round calendar that ends ominously on December 21, 2012. Some predict this symbolizes the end of time as we know it. Inspired by this mystery, we offer Point 2012 Black Ale to help contemplate this 'end of time' or perhaps a 'new beginning.' Dark rich roasty and complex, Point 2012 Black Ale is hand-crafted with Pale, Munich, and Roasted Malts with Cluster, Saaz, and Cascade hops for the robust flavor and finish. Enjoy -- while there's still time.

Near-black brown pour, dark creamy head, nice lacing. Light roasted malts, earthy hops character, some cocoa and lightly burnt toast, slight molasses sweetness, earthy light bitter linger.

Medium sized brown head. Well carbonated. Black, nearly opaque. Aroma is light, roasty and sweet. Lightly roasted and light chocolate to start. Touch of mocha. Becomes a bit more roasty towards the middle and finish, with a hint of soy sauce. Some molasses and dried fruit in the aftertaste.

This is actually a black ale, but super dark brown ale will do. Not as hoppy as a lot of American Black Ales, so I guess it could be classified as a "Brown". Anyways, good malt content.....almost like a light sweet stout or porter. Decent chocolate in the flavor. Little bit more to it, and could be 8s all around. Aroma is not that great, but that was kind of expected for the quality. Worth the price, and would get again.

the commercial was great and it won a huge award but I had to wait til it was down to $6 a six pack before I got it and then planned to use it for beer floats. Seeing it here its weird that its a brown ale. Chocolately and carmely with a chewiness to it which doesnt seem as watered down as other point beer. Nice hops zest after the swallow. Great white head. Thin enough to drink in the summer, thick enough to enjoy as a beer float, wont cause the end of the world.

There is very little aroma. Pours with a tan head that dissipated after a few minutes. There is a mild flavor, perhaps some bittersweet. I agree with Clash, it reminds me more of a Schwarz than an ale. The easy-going nature of the beer is not what one would expect from the murky facade. It's actually light and refreshing. It's not going to knock you socks off, but that wasn't the intent of this brew. It's average all around, except for the color and I wouldn't turn another one down.

This poured a black color with a beige head. The aroma is dark chocolate and caramel. The flavor is rather bitter with some toffee, coffee, and chocolate going on. This is far from a brown ale and more like a schwarz, but the ale yeast makes it........well dare I say its own beast!

Ehhh... OK. The aroma was faint (roasted malt and chocolate) and had a fair poured, although all 3 produced no head and no lacing. Medium in the mouth and a non-committal, non-obtrusive, non-muchofanything flavor. The next three will make the Thanksgiving rotation... for those who know no better - and don't care.

Well one thing is for sure.. They forgot to flavor this beer. Oh Well.. Better than bud.
Smelled of nothing really.. some malt not too much more. poured thin black with little head. Light body with not too much carbonation and it finished smooth. Flavor was some malt some grass and a bit of sugar.. Not very good. -

In an era that has finally seen the end of area microbreweries getting away from IPAs, I am glad to see more dark beers. I am not sure what Point was going for here, making an ale that miminics a lager. But the end result is a of a disappointment. The malty sweetness seems to finish with a bitter note, leaving a bad after taste. IF you are a Black Lager fan like I am, I would pass on this one, or at least make it your 5th or 6th choice.

Aroma is malty with a subtle undertone of molasses and a whisper of yeast. It pours a nice opaque sable with a fairly thick and fluffy beige head. Flavor is malty and a little sweet, having a hint of molasses, but not too strong. Texture is a little on the watery side and just a little fizzy.
