Basement Batch is is a traditional American-style Pale Ale. Much like our infamouse award-winning choc beer, it's handcrafted with only the finest ingredients. Starting with a base of American-grown 2-row malted barley we add liberal amounts of caramel and Victory malts to give Basement Batch a rich, almost nutty, malt backbone to complement the unique citrus character Cascade hops, which are the gold standard for this style. Like all of our choc beers, Basment Batch is "bottle conditioned," which means that it's fermented a second time while in the bottle. This long-established method of carbonating beer will leave a thin layer of yeast on the bottom of the bottle. So, pour slowly and carefully to maintain clarity, and enjoy!

Sampled on 10/1/2010. This Pale Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Huge sized white foamy head, with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity, citrusy and sweet. A medium bodied Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with some peach. The hops are floral and slightly citrusy. Decent carbonation. Some orange and orange peel flavors as well. Crisp and clean. A nice drinkable Pale Ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Aroma - piney nose, slightly metallic, kinda smells like some pine needles soaked in isopropyl alcohol
Appearance - golden yellow/orange hazy body, huge, fluffy merengue-like head that left behind stickly, clumpy lacing. Medium-large sized bubbles clining to the glass.
Taste - nice bitterness, sweetness is nearly non-existent here giving a nice dry finish. Herbaceous, with a light astringent angle which I enjoyed.
Palate - medium bodied, medium bitter finish, nice level of carbonation
Overall - very nice pale ale any which way you slice it. I would have enjoyed just a tad more sweetness in the flavor but very enjoyable nonetheless. Another big thank you to pfoxyjohn!
