Ommegang and HBO® announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration series. Through its first three seasons, the critically acclaimed drama has become the biggest show on HBO. Take the Black Stout follows the highly coveted Iron Throne Blonde Ale, which flew off of shelves earlier this year. To satisfy the appetite of Game of Thrones fans, production of Take the Black Stout will more than double the final volumes of Iron Throne Blonde Ale. Inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch, Take the Black Stout was made to be deep, dark and complex like those who have sworn the oath to defend Westeros against threats from the north. The label depicts the Weirwood tree where Jon Snow recited the oath before joining the Night’s Watch. In time for the holidays, Take the Black Stout makes for the perfect gift. Shipping to distributors in September 2013, the beer is available in 750 ML bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs.

Remarkably little nose, maybe some dark cherry. Nice black opaque body topped with toffee colored head that is sizable and short lived with good lace. Mouth is a bit thin but Ok for style. Flavor is fairly subtle, some dark fruit, some sweetness, and a slightly bitter at the finish, pretty well done.

Pours a dark brown colour with a big foamy mocha-coloured head that stays long and has thick soapy lace. Roasted malt aromas blended with apples notes. Hints of dark fruits, but overall mild with some wood and vanilla. The mouthfeel is pretty nice with some wetness at start, going down nicely, to end up with a mildly dry finish. Roasted malts and light grass lingers. Caramel base, but not too sweet. More on the bitter side. Not bad, but not my favourite Missing some coffee and chocolate. Seems like these come out slightly with time.

Great looking beer. Black beauty. Even with a gentle pour it produces a huge light brown frothy head that lasts forever and leaves lacing from top to bottom. Mild aroma of roasted malt and tin. Taste has a hint of smoke, some chocolate and coffee, licorice and earthy. Appearance suggests a full bodied beer but it’s not. Ommegang have a good sales gimmick going but it’s the beer that counts. One was enough.

Pours an insane amount of foamy brownish head and has a very deep dark brown appearance with red highlights. Some sediments are visible. Has patchy lacing. Mild aromas of roasted malts, coffee, light chocolate and a bit of vanilla. Flavours of mild chocolate, notes of coffee and light spices. Some earthy type hops also. Has some slight hints of licorice in the finish. Sort of a wet mouthfeel. Slick and oily sensation. Fairly well balanced. Pretty good stuff!

Started off season 3 DVD with this bad boy. Big notes of anise and licorice, roasted malt, coffee. chocolate. Darker than expected, but a little too high on te carbonation (as expected). A little swirling tames it a little bit but the body is the only slight fault in this solid take on a Belgian stout. Well done!

Pours a solid black with a huge fluffy tan head that persists forever. Aromas of roasted grains, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, licorice, light alcohol, and spicy fruity yeast esters. The flavor is caramel and dark chocolate up front with a huge roasted grain presence that at times feels a bit ashy. Licorice and an earthy hop flavor meld with a touch of dark pitted fruit. Long lingering earthy roasted bitterness sits on my palette long after each sip. Medium to thick body with a bubbly roasty mouthfeel and a spirited level of carbonation.

I do like Ommegang beer- this misses the mark for me, I am not a stout fan, and this selection will push me off more. Caramal not much, a little burnt flavor. No aftertaste-thank God.

Bottle share; from Ratchet. Frothy beige head with nice lacing on a burnt black beer. Almost burnt toast aroma, deeply roasted malts, hint of anise and molasses, very earthy. Rich and toasty for certain.

I guess this is sort of like a foreign extra....as far as flavor and feel. Medium texture for the style. Dark black appearance, so just by looking you would expect a thicker feel. Ok balance and hard to say anything negative about this brew, just sort of forgettable as there are so many now.

Never seen this damn show so we will see how the beer tastes. pours pitch black with a 2 finger chocolate colored head that takes at least a fort night to go down. Aroma is malted to the extreme with a strong hint of coffee and a smidgen of dark chocolate. Taste is fairly dry with a hint of bitterness like from coffee. Mouthfeel is a tad watered down in my opinion. Finishes off dry and sticky. Does not live up to the hype but is decently done. Better than most others from the brewery I have tried. Good looking beer though.
