These really are exciting times for boozy mash-ups. If the prospect of Vodquila leaves you tingly in a good way, and you love Anheuser-Busch InBev's malt-beverage "margaritas" — they just rereleased Cran-Brrr-Rita, by the way — you'll no doubt rejoice upon hearing the news that the brewery giant is just about ready to unleash Oculto, a beer that tastes like tequila, but contains none. Surfacing this spring, this 6 percent ABV stuff is "aged" in vats containing tequila barrel staves and it's blended with blue agave, similar to Desperados, a "distinct Latin-inspired European import beer" involving tequila-barrel-aged lager that Heineken is currently testing on shelves in the Southeast. That stuff is also supposed to get a big 2015 rollout.

Label - and it was a cool one - claims to be made by Broken Barrel Brewing Company, of Houston TX and Williamsburg VA. It is STILL an AB product from my viewpoint. Golden pour, creamy white head, poorly retained. Fruity aroma. Medium body. Sweet to the taste, might've had a miniature hint of tequila in there as well. Or not. Not to be repeated.

A bright golden colored body with a fairly large frothy textured, white head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. A small ringlet is left. A sweet lemony nose. Light agave and lemon dominate the tasting. Light bodied, though there is a smoothness on the tongue. No high Wow factor marks here, but drinkable.
