La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged sour brown spends one to three years in big, oak barrels, known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it’s considered one of the best sour beers around

Lots of pressure behind the cork when opening. Big well formed foamy head that doesn’t diminish at all. Fantastic aroma that leaves no doubt as to what type of ale this is. Nice dark amber body with fair amount of carbonation. Fantastically sour flavor of green apples and citrus, with a more subdued earth flavor that’s noticeable and perhaps a rounded finish of a hint of wood. There is an ever so slight sourness that lingers on the palate after drinking. Just enough to remind you of what you had been drinking. I could get used to drinking this on a regular basis, which may be a bad thing considering that I know I can pick this up in the SF Bay Area at several locales. It lost appearence points due to the head being a little too volatile upon pouring into the glass.

Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Pours hazy lazy deep copper with nice tan head. The aroma is sour and more sour after that. The flavor has some nice dark grape juice notes along with tart grapes and sourness. Nice flavors where the tartness doesn’t kill off my ability to taste.

Pours an opaque dark chocolate brown with a fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is strong, rich and fruity. Pleasantly sour flavor is strongly of sour apple and quite fierce - those who love sour ales should flip over this one! Texture is fairly smooth and nicely tingly.
