The "Hand Brewery" has always been obsessed with the original Scandinavian brew - ale made by farmers, aged in wood, deep, dark, and invariably, naturally, sour. So, when the boys got their famous hands on some oak barrels used for making sherry and rhubarb wine, everyone knew what would happen next ... Imported to USA by Shelton Brothers.

Pours opaque chocolate with a fair buff head. Aroma gives dark fruit, roast malt and woody notes. Flavor yields tart dark fruit, woody, toasted malt and caramel notes. Texture presents good smooth body and lively fizz. Hand it to ya!

500 ml capped bottle,as a 8.0 % ABV, Batch N°289, brewed on 05/20/2010. Poured a clear rich-burgundy coloured Ale with no foamy head at all (!); not a smaller tiny bubble !! No carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is sourish redberries, blackberries, sourish dark fruits, woody tones, oaks. The flavour is roasted coffee beans, spicy, peppery and licorice, sourish berries, aciditic tones, vinegar. The mouthfeel is high sourish and alcoholic. This medium bodied Ale has a dry sourish and alcoholic finish. A quite one-way sourish Ale but a good one.

Interesting aroma with the mix of sour and oak notes coupled with a funky moldish smell. Typical browinish looking with a light fizzy body, pretty standard. Flavor is, like the smell, interesting with the mix of oak and sour, notes of leather and tobacco made this a strange sour. It is very sour as advertised, a tongue grabber for sure so overall a good experience and complex flavor profile.

Bottled. Deep reddish amber colour with a small off-white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is sour wood with some tart berries and mild sweetish malts. Flavour is quite similar with the tart berries coming through most evident. The higher ABV helps out balancing up some of the sourness and tartness.

vingar aroma explodes outta the bottle upon opening. again on the pour, preparing me for a super sour taste sensation, but the flavor was way more mellow than expected and balanced with sweetness and wood. this was anaverage sour for me, though i would definitely not call it a starter sour. 5/11 - this once specifies red wine barrels on the label. maybe it's the same, maybe not...but bottle two was better and more assertive than bottle one. this one was a solid 4+ instead of a 3.5. score adjusted accordingly.

Sampled on 4/3/2009. This sour ale pours a very dark color from a 50cl bottle. Medium sized pinkish tinted white foamy head with nice retention. The aroma is tart fruit, oak and sour cherries. Medium bodied Sour. The malts are fruity and caramel. Lots of tart cheery flavors, with some funk and oak as well. Nice soft carbonation. Nicely balanced. The oak flavors balance nicely with the tart sour, funkiness. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart.

Pours dark brown with distinctive red highlights and a small, creamy head. Aroma is delightfully sour with apple and vinous notes. The flavor is complex with a hearty malt base, citrus and ripe fruit notes, dominated by sourness. Very delicious if you like a sour. Medium bodied and gently carbonated.

Sampled from bottle. Pours dark red/amber with a thick tan head. Bold, tart, fruit aroma. Wood notes. Balanced and acidic. Fairly high final gravity for a sour. Quite fruity, some caramel and very funky. Faint wood. Medium-bodied and highly carbonated. A good showing.
