This is an alright beer. I like a black & tan beer but I think its a little weak in the flavor dept. I pay about $5.50 for a 4 pack, which I think is a little pricey for the taste. It's a good beer to see if you like the taste of a black & tan style beer.

Pours a brown color similar to coca-cola with a small head with good retention and a little lacing. The aroma is malty, thats just about it. Maybe some slight brown sugar and spice. The taste is sweet and malty with a poke at some spice of some sort, but really not much going on here. The mouthfeel is light and watery.

Great novelty bottle, not bad flavor, but MUD it is not. Body is rather thin, color is sort of a light cola color that is a bit see-through. Grab a bottle when your on vacation so nobody you really know sees you buying it!

Bottled@Monks Wallingatan, Stockholm. Deep ambery brown colour, close to black. Aroma is toasted malts, mild raisins, some caramel, mild smoked and toasted/ashy notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some ashy, caramelly and chocolaty notes along with mild nuttyness. Also some dark fruityness.

Got to love this bottle, even before I was into beer this bottle always caught my eye and now many years later I still like it. Dark brown body that is still clear with lots of red shining through. Smell is mild and smells like beer with possibly some black cherry and or cranberry coffee is also noticeable but barely. Taste is much the same but with some mild hops that gives the brew a very crisp taste. Coffee plumbs light roasted malts can all be tasted. The light taste makes this brew highly drinkable I think I like this beer.

a bit of an inbetween beer in quality and price (between macro & quality micro)...a little thin, roasted flavors but a little weakish. good beer as an intro to craft beer.

This porter black and tan is better than most "cheap" black & tans I've had. The aroma of grain and oak (not sure if that is the best description) was pleasant while pouring. The color is deep and rich. The brew felt a bit watery in the mouth, but provided a decent flavor. Overall, a beer I will revist when I want a neat jug and a cheap black and tan.

Been a while since I had this beer......something like 15 years, so saw this recently which reminded me to review. I sort of want to grab one so I can review it with a fresh update, but I have a feeling that I would semi-regret it afterwards. Until I do I'll just have to go on old memories. It really isn't a bad beer though, used to get it for camping trips, etc. Has a dark, muddy appearance with a typical black and tan/porter taste....maybe something like a thicker Yuengling Black & Tan. A decent "budget" dark beer. Will probably buy a 32 oz. to take on my next camping festival so I can update this rating.

I'm not gonna lie- i just drank this baby out of the jug. I had to. My boss used to talk about this beer, he had it when he was a young lad. Now he's old and grey, and can't find it anywhere but i found it down in Chicago. HAd to buy it and tonight i imbibed it. Placid, creamy vanilla and a little oak i think. some milk chocolate notes is what i tasted. couldn't tell ya what it looked like unforunately. but satifying and highly drinkable. it would be clever to get some swing tops for these here jugs and fill 'em with moonshine for the fellas. Yessir!

Atrractive bottle but a true let down. This "mud" was ok there was a watery feel about this that I just could nt get over. Hard to find in Hawaii now but was fairly prevelent in the past. Wouldn't mind having this one occasionally, I mean occasionally.

Yep, the bottle is the eye catcher. Wife wants it for some decorative idea she’s got. Seen this one for sometime and passed it up until tonight. A dark reddish brown ale. Small, off hite head settles fairly quickly into a decent soapy lacing. The aroma is a weak malt sweetness. The mouthfeel is the most disappointing aspect of this beer. Light, finishing watery. The taste is sweet, caramel and malty. Drinkable but not something I’d sludge through the mud again.
