Not a bad beer but I tend to expect more from a Quad and Mikkeller. Quite sweet, herbal and floral. Looks ok. Rusty aroma and flavour, dark fruits and yeast. Medium mouthfeel. !0% abv not very noticeable until you try to review.

Very dark brown with a large light tan cap. Sticky lacing every wear. Perfumey alcohol in the nose along with wood, good yeast, tons of sweet sugar…..aroma seems to be missing something. Taste is woody, some chocolate, yeast, mild banana, kind of a red wine oaky flavor. brew is ok nothing bad about it just seems to have slightly missed the style. It be very drinkable.

750 ml bottle - SJ BevMo
Aroma - lots of sweetness in the aroma, overripe fruits, nutty, caramel with a background of chocolate dipped dried apricots.
Appearance - hazy dark brown body, thick creamy beige head with some nice last power. Nice lacing left behind, but thin.
Taste - chocolate, dried fruits..lots of residual sugars here. Plums, rum raisins, lightly herbal...some roasted notes on the back end.
Palate - medium/full bodied, creamy and finishes with a quick bite of alcohol.
Overall - very nice, quite drinkable but a bit overpriced at $15 a bottle. A special occasion beer for sure. -

Bottle: Poured a slightly cloudy deep brown color ale with a super huge foamy head with great retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramelized malt with notes of light dry fruit and some fruity ester. Taste is also dominated by sweet caramelized malt with some notes of candi sugar and cookie dough. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Well done thought it is lacking some complexity compared to some of the best from this style.

Tasted during the Nor Cal Beer Geek Tasting on 3/11/2009. This abbey quad pours a murky medium amber color from the bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet, touch of caramel and some yeast. Medium bodied quad. Malts are fruity an dswet. Hops are spicy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. A big, sweet, fruity quad with a nice slightly dry finish. Hides the 10% alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet with a touch of alcohol.

1 pt. 9.4.fl. oz. corked "champagne" bottle, as Mikkeller Monk’s Brew, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Very dark brown colour, slightly hazy, huge tan head. Malty and vinous aroma, notes of brown sugar, oak and spices. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and malty, again notes of brown sugar, oak and spices, nicely balanced with the hops. Hints of chocolate and coffee. Maybe not quite a trappist, but nearly there. If Mikkel is as skilled at paternosters and avemarias as he is at brewing, he may sign up as a trappist monk any day!

Draught at Københavnske Øldage. Clear dark reddish brown colour topped with a creamy beige foam. Sweet malty and fairly yeasty aroma of raisin, dades, vanilla, oak and spices. Full and rather vinous flavour of port, raisin, vanilla and alcohol. Long warming finish of raisin, alcohol, brown sugar with a dryish spicy sensation. Tasty but I liked their Monky Brew even more.
