330ml bottle from Central City; best before 28 March 2019. 9.39% ABV is apparent. Amber pour, some haze, and a fluffy off-white head. Odd nose, cotton candy, burnt sugar, and alcohol. Flavour was again with the candy, and certainly boozy. Solid mouthfeel. A different beer for sure, but I do like it.

It pours a slightly hazy copper and burnt-orange with a thick, foamy, and dimply white/light-orange head and copious lacing which is mainly around the head. A rich aroma of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, dates and prunes, butterscotch, peach, and spiciness. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, light raisins and dates, butterscotch, peaches, and spiciness and zing. Excellent .. these BSAs are growing on me ..

Pours an appealing clear coppery-mahogany with a decent pale buttery-tan head that leaves some substantial lacing. Aroma has malty, fruity and floral notes as well as hints of caramel and hops; though not strong, it still tempts the palate. Flavor is indeed funky - caramel, woody, malty and nutty notes with a fruity and floral undertone and more than a hint of hops. Smooth, full-bodied texture has a firm tingle that leaves a persistent fizz in the fruity and slightly honey-sweet finish.

supposedly more funk on tap, but i had a bottle. while quite good it was more sweet, oaky, and malt dominated than i'd been lead to beleive. a little tart barnyard underneath. smooth at nearly 10%...a sessionable strong beer.

Sampled on 4/23/2011. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium orange amber color from a 750ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, a touch funky and dry. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, funky and caramely. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice carbonation. A touch of funk, some must and barnyard. Not a whole lot of funk going on in this beer, there is some in the aroma and a touch in the dry finish. I am kind of disappointed in this beer, with a name like Funky e star I was expecting Bootsy Collins, what we got was KC (without the Sunshine Band). Nice dry finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, smooth and edry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a touch of funk.

750 ml "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.39%. Amber to brown hazy colour, big to moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Fairly nice moderate aroma, some funky and fruity notes, also notes of dust and damp basement. The flavour is moderately funky and fairly alcoholic, medium bitter hops in the finish. Not bad, but from Mikkeller you expect something better than this.

Yum yum yum. Honey brown body capped with a noisy white crown. Aroma has a punch to it citrus combined with a flower shop, spice and hints of apple, no alcohol but some sharp wood. Taste us yummy lots of yeast good spice a nice floral hop and has a pleasant alcohol burn. Feel is thin but it works for the beer. This sharp wood flavor is turning almost into pine the longer I drink. I got to say I’m really liking this Belgian/farmhouse/hopy combo. Has a tannic after taste that lingers forever. I want more!!

750ml bottle -
Aroma - truck loads of ripe fruit in the aroma, some spicy grapefruit rearing it’s head, cut roses and alcohol....strange.
Apperance - reddish golden body, thich white head, lacing was decent
Taste - man, this one seems all over the place...mint, corriander, lime zest, yeast, caramel with a twisting, spicy/yeasty finish. Not sure if I was digging this or not. Kinda different the first 1/2 of the pint, but afterwards...no way I could have finished this bottle myself.
Overall - not sure if this was just an experiment, or if they dumped whatever they had left into the boil but it was just alright. I guess calling it a BSA is as good as anything. -

ours out in a hazy pale amber colour with a rich sticky off-white head. Fruity and a bit yeasty aroma of nectarines, mango, white bread, lemon-zest and oranges. Medium to full-bodied with fruity and slightly spicy notes of mandarin, nectarines, yellow plums and mild cinnamon with hints of flowers, lemon-zest and funk. Creamy mouthfeel. Long fruity and fresh aftertaste of apricots and nectarines with hints of spicy yeast, lemon, zest flowers and funk. Dangerously drinkable.

Bottled@Timo A tasting session, Tampere. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is hops, caramel and quite much berries and fruity notes as well. Flavour is quite much the same along with some hints of alcohol. A rather nice weird brew with some twisted notes. Might need some aging, but already welldrinkable.
