Speciaalbierfestival. Clear mahohany ruby, tanned lasting, lacing foam head. Nice littel caramle aroma, bit sparkling on tongue. Great smooth taste and feeling. (Arnhem 201605)

Enjoyed at the Pub Italia with PaleAleRider. Best before 01/01/2015. Pours a darker brown colour, but not on the black side. Light beige head, bubbly, good retention and a little lacing. Yeasty nose reminding me of Champagne. Then, other scents comes out: nutty, raisins, caramel and dates. The taste is quite smooth with some lighter fruits, but still dark notes, yeast, caramel and roasted malts. Very smooth mouthfeel with just a little warmth. Not sure why they call this one "Black Chocolate" in the US, as I do not feel much chocolate malt. After eating some food, seems like a mix of coconut and vanilla lingers after the soft grassy finish. Quite nice overall.

Split a 750ml bottle at Pub Italia with Chopz. Pours a large foamy bubbly beige head and has a brown appearance with ruby highlights. Aromas are quite yeasty with notes of raisins and toffee. Flavours are mostly malty, notes of caramel, raisins, nuts, and toffee. Some very subtle hints of chocolate as well as some yeasty notes. Nice excessive carbonation. Full bodied mouthfeel. Tingling and slick sensation. Alcohol is very well hidden. Great stuff!

750 ml dark green "champagne" bottle, as Malheur Dark Brut, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 12%. Hazy dark brown colour, huge beige head. Fairly interesting aroma, malts, chocolate, Belgian ale yeast, stewed dark fruits, hints of farmhouse and spices. The flavour is medium sweet and malty with moderately roasty and chocolatey notes, also spices, notes of prunes and other dark fruits. Moderate hops. Some warmth, but the alcohol is otherwise well hidden. An unusual Belgian, complex and well balanced, a beer to savour - but the big bottle is for sharing!

Pours fuzzy brown with tons of tiny bubbles and a decent head. Mouthfeel is nice. Flavor is huge on fruit, chocolate, nuts. This one is very reminiscent of a Westvleteran.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a nice thick foamy head with great retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of sweet barley malt is very enticing. Taste is a nice balance between some sweet barley malt with notes of caramel. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol was apparent. Very well done but unfortunately this is lacking character and I couldn't justify paying that kind of rpice for that experience more then once.

Extreme dark brown body with hints of red, a two inch tan cap reduced down to about half an inch but this lasted the rest of the beer and left behind lots of lacing. Aroma was made up of sweet alcohol but not as much as you’d think given the massive content in here, spice, yeast, wheat, and grape juice. Mouth feel was all right but just maybe a touch thin. Taste is pretty good starts off sweet and turns into a clean bitterness in the finish, taste milder than I expected from this big beer. Wood, grape juice that also sometimes taste like watermelon jolly ranchers, dark light tasting malts and some spice all make up the flavor. Taste is so much milder then I would have ever guessed and the alcohol is hidden very well, I would recommend this to any one because it’s a very easy drinking beer but easy drinking is not something you normally look for in the style. Like I said its good but not stand outish.

A very careful pour produces a seven finger thick, lightly browned, tan colored head that just keeps on growing; it overflows the top of my glass quite a bit. The beer is a dark brown color, but shows a clear, concentrated red hue when held up to the light. The aroma is quite inviting as I am inspecting the beer visually; richly caramelized bread notes, toasty grain and dark fruit aromas are all noticeable. A closer inspection of the nose reveals additional aromatics of green apples, raisins, a green-spicy-herbal note, cocoa, and warming alcohol (enough so I can feel it at times in my nose). This is interesting as it has the fruit character of a dry Belgian Tripel, but has some dusty, dark malt aromatics thrown in. The aroma just doesn't have a depth to it that I would like though it is nice.
The beer has sat for some time in my glass with lots of time to lose the voluminous carbonation. At this point it tastes quite creamy and a bit sweeter than I was expecting. The beer was served at 50°F (10°C), so a bit warm for the amount of carbonation, but it is quite open in its flavor profile. Sweet flavors of chocolate flavored caramel, rum soaked raisins, The beer finishes with an appetizing, fermentation derived, spiciness and a dark malt bitterness; flavors reminiscent of white pepper, ginger, clove, bitter chocolate and a touch of espresso all add to a slightly astringent, biting finish. At times the alcohol is quite noticeable in the finish, really even hot, which is not unexpected in a beer with such a, relatively, light body and of this strength. I like that this beer is so light for a beer of this strength. If it wasn't for the alcohol, this would be dangerously drinkable.
This really needs to be a bit more tame on the alcohol front to be really good, sure you could chill the hell out of the beer and that would reduce the alcohol, but you would lose so much of the fruit, malt and spice character then. -

This was a great beer. Mahogany in color with a thick tan head. Super smooth chocolate and plum flavors. Definitely give this one a shot.
