A traditionally styled Porter with that MAD RIVER TWIST. Our version of the English working class brew offers complex malt characteristics balanced with a mild hop profile. The addition of Scottish peated and German Rauch malts lend a mild smoke flavor to the finish. Some of our brewers have taken to donning a kilt when its time to brew this beauty. Try this beer along with grilled poultry, meats and veggies. It also makes a great marinade for the cook and the meal.

Barely translucent brown, tall rocky head that dissolves into a thin but lingering cap, leaving lace. There's some molasses aroma here, but it's mostly gives the impression of smoked raisins with just a faint suggestion of camphor. Fine, not amazing. Char & smoke predominate the flavor, as one might expect in a porter. Not too sweet or peaty, despite the suggestion that it would be Scottish. Decent, not great. Lightish feel, tingly, not overly sticky. Overall, I like it, but I'm not really impressed. This used to get incredible reviews. Did it change? Maybe I have to try it again sometime.

Pours a very dark brown/black with a thick white head. Not much in the aroma catagory but you can definatly tell it is a porter. Taste is strong with hints of coffee, caramel, and scotch. Very thick feeling with the light aftertaste. This is a good beer.

After popping the top on this little bomb, the foam slowly rose to create a funny hat on the bottle that reminded me of an elf's stocking cap. I poured it as slowly as I could, but I still got half glass of foam! This is not what I expected from a porter. No worries. Wait a minute and pour the rest. Now this is a good looking beer. Roasted grain and coffee predominate the nose. Mouthfeel is flat and slimy. I expect a flat mouthfeel for a porter, but this is too much. And the slime... WTF? There is a burnt grain taste that is almost perfect but it lacks a little sweetness. Wait for it. Wait for it. Ah. There it is on the finish. Great beer minus the afforementioned mouthfeel. This one suprised me.

I paired this one with an angus burger and fries. Simple Saturday. A deep dark brownish-black colored ale. A bif tan head. Good hang time. Settles into a nice light brown lacing atop a beautiful black body. Big nose of roasted malt and sweetened cocoa. Moderate body, nice smoothness true to the genre. The taste is Porter. Roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of coffee.

Good body. Tighter on the carbonation than I like, which takes away from the smoothness of the beer. Bigger than a lot of Porter's though, which makes it a recomended beer.

Opaque brown pour with a filmy head of medium size and stringy lacing. This looks amazingly inviting sitting in the glass. Rich, roasted malty aroma with strong notes of chocolate, cream, and coffee. Smooth and creamy yet thinner than I like, but not by much. Great aftertaste, filling and drinkable. Sweet, roasted malt and grainy bread flavors. Milk chocolate along with bitter coffee and a touch of pacific northwest hops. Similar to a sweet stout, this is an awesome relaxing dark beer.

One of the myriad of beers I had while enjoying myself with my family, my brothers family, and his neighbors families on a day after, the day after Thanksgiving Dinner. I've had several chances to pour myself this beer, but I always seemed to trade away all my bottles, but a quick stop at my BevMo, I noticed they had some in so I picked up a sixer to make sure, this time I was able to have some.

The pour is a deep, deep brownish/blackish color with a nice one-finger thick dark brown head. Inhaling the aroma, the first thing that hit my senses was the molasses. Then the onslaught of coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of toffee (reminded me of those Skor candy bars...love those). Mouthfeel is creamy, soft and smooth. Flavor is an incredible amalgamation of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, a touch of liquid smoke with a smooth, clean finish. Really, a top notch porter that I think should be deserving of a bit more recognition.

well this brew was a delight. it poured a brown color, but when held up too the lamp it had a amber outside that you could see. the blend of two styles was done wonderfully. the head was there and then it was gone real quick. a little lace was left on the glass though. flavor of a dark fruit and maybe some nuts. better as it warms. mouthfeel was rich and medium in body. definately a brew that i would have again.

Dark brown, no head. Roasty coffee aroma with traces ofburnt sugar, tropical fruit and earth. Nice deep flavour of cocoa, coffee, lemon. Some cascade hops in finish with notes of pepper and smoke. Very good porter.
