Pours translucent caramel with minimum head. Aroma yields caramel, toasty malt, earthy notes. Flavor presents caramel, boozy, toasty malt and earthy tones. Texture features decent body and perky fizz. Excellence indeed - with cows.

I am not a big fan of this types of beers but I did give it a try. Aroma is dark fruit, sweet malt, banana and clove yeast, and a little candy sugar. This is a very complex beer. The appearance is its best attribute and is a very deep brown that is very cloudy and you can not see through it at all.It also has an amazing tan head that expands quickly. The mouthfeel is good and is extremely complex and the flavor is a bit alcoholic with hints of banana and unknown spices. Overall, an interesting beer but will definitely take some getting use to and should be tried by people who enjoy interesting beers. I was not a huge fan, but you may be.

great to see DeProef in Houston, thank you DuFF!! dark chocolate fudge, raisens, plum, in the nose ...pours with a grand ole head .. nice flavours, lots of fruits , like flys ... very drinkable ... good masking .. a fine brew that no one really knows .. big mountain fudgecake?

I found this one at Perfect Pour in Columbia, MD. I was looking for something Belgian and something different than what I've had before. My eyes fixated on this Lozen Boer and I decided to pick up a bottle even though it came with a hefty $10.99 price tag. My friend Rob ended up sharing this one with me. Needless to say we both approved.

This beer had a nice dark red/brown color to it and produced a thick tan head when being poured into the glass. The head was a good finger and a half to two fingers thick. The beer had some good carbonation in it as you could see some big bubbles floating up through the glass. I got the beer from the bottom of the bottle (because I like yeast) and there were some decent chunks of yeast floating around in my glass when I was done pouring it. There was as strong smell of sugar and alcohol in the beer with some sour notes mixed in there as well, maybe from some figs or raisins.

When I got around to drinking the Lozen Boer, it was very warm and smooth to drink and packed with flavor. You could really pick up on hints of figs, Belgian candy sugar, and chocolate malts. Oh yeah and then there's the 10% alcohol content. You can taste it, but it's not gross. It just makes you warm up real quick while drinking it.

Overall I really liked everything about this one except for the price tag. Maybe if I could find it on sale or for a little less I'd buy more. Otherwise, this one will be a special occasion beer. Would go great in front of a nice warm fire during the winter time.

Aromas that are quite similar to a fruity rum waft to my nose as I pour this beer. It is topped by a frothy, initially three-finger thick, tan colored head that slowly recedes with a textured, lace inducing, varied, rocky surface. The beer is an opaque, dark, concentrated amber color that shows a lightly hazy, cranberry hue when held up to the light. Quite alcoholic smelling, definite seems rum infused with its mix of rich fruit and malt notes. A mix of peppery-higher alcohols, prunes, figs, sweet molasses soaked brown sugar, ginger and clove. A substantial concentrated malt character towards the middle and finish seems to walk hand-in-hand with a slightly stale, almost old malt extract like mustiness. An interesting aroma, in the end the aroma smells significantly of a mix of concentrated fruit and spicy higher alcohol notes, but seems to be lacking a richness and finesse that I would like.

Significantly drier than I was expecting, but it still has a significant fruit sweetness to it. The higher alcohols are also quite noticeable in the flavor; they provide a spicy, slightly hot, peppery finish to this brew. The higher alcohols are slightly balanced by a deep fruitiness that reminds me of Dr. Pepper or the mythical prune juice soda. Flavors of raisins, prunes, cloves, a touch of molasses, a touch of plum like tartness and some interesting cola like cardamom notes. Malt notes of caramel, brown sugar, hints of cocoa and substantial toasted grain.

This just seems to fall flat some how; it is a touch thin and even a bit washed out for something labeled as an Abt. Really though I think this is too spicy, too full of higher alcohols for the residual malt character to deal with effectively. If there was more malt here, more body, I think the extra spiciness would work quite well.

PP 12-hour Belgian Beer Festival...Pours with a cloudy amber body topped by a medium thick, off-white head with a good amount of lacing. It’s malty with a hint of fuity esters and a slight spiciness. Medium bodied, numbing on the tongue and a touch dry.

This Quad pours a deep amber color from a 750ml cork finished bottle. Large sized long lasted white foamy head. Aroma is cherries and plums and raisins, brown sugar, molasses and clove. Touch of alcohol. A medium bodied quad. Malts are roasty, fruity and sweet. Lots of brown sugar and chocolate flavors. A little earthy and spicy. Touch of alcohol bite at 10% abv. Malty and sweet, without being cloying. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol bite.

Opened on a quiet Wednesday, for no other reason than it's the middle of the week... ;)

Took some effort to get the cork out of the bottle, but I evventually ended up with an Augustijn goblet's worth of this. Doesn't look like much -- nil lacing, and only the scantiest of scant layers of foam..., not even enough to cover the entire surface area of the exposed beer on top.

Rather lacking in the nose, too. In fact, unless my nose is really out-of-wack, I'd swet I'm smelling some sort of clorinated pool water-ish notes in the nose. San Diego's tap water is *heavily* clorinated, but don't see how this would matter, since it's not like I washed this glass out with tap water or anything prior to pouring the beer.

The flavor profile first hits my mouth more-or-less pretty well -- the rather typical semi-sweet maltiness, with the follow-up fig-and-raisin aspects, and so on. But these are all seemingly temporary and transitory flavors, since they quickly give way to some harsher notes. A certian acidic dryness shows up first (tannins?), with weird "stale wine" vinegary notes in the backend and the after-taste. Not good.

As this beer warms, and I try to warm up to it, the harsher aspects calm down a bit -- but never truly leave the scene.

A tolerable beer, I suspose..., but surely not worth the $8.99 I spent for it. It's a toss-up if I'm going to dump this or not, to be honest...

Wow, what a nice find!! A dark fruit, malty-sweet, earthy nose. A beautiful dark ruby reddish/purple color with incredible conditioning. VERY smooth, creamy and velvety in the mouth. The flavor is rather complex with brown sugar, notes of chocolate, cherry, raisins, whiskey, finishing nice and dry. I can't believe this has so little ratings for such an incredible beer. I will be looking for this again.
