From Firefly, in a corked and caged bottle; better packaging than many wines, these days. Poured massively dark, beneath a frothy brown head. No lacing today, I'm afraid. Nose was surely smoky, with malt in the background. Mouthfeel was nice and smooth. Flavour was not overly smoked, but enough to let you know that this IS a Rauchbier. Very tasty, and my first from this brewer. Hope it isn't the last!

750ml corked & caged bottle: Pours a lush turbid brown beer in the glass. Puffy 3 finger cap takes a while to collapse into a surface lace. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is pungent with bready cocoa and musty woody tones, light applewood smoke tone. Rich malt spine, creamy mouth feel. Big flavor of the bread-cocoa-smoke in the front then some musty woody hopping, long wet finish. A smoked lager that profiles a rich malt mixture and keeps the smoke flavor as a background tone...excellent and drinkable

Thanks eagle. Poured a dark cloudy broand color with okay lacing. Aroma was like a pack of cigarettes. Flavor was very ashy and meat?? As it warm a dry smoke as eagle said.

Bottle from SL. The pour was deep brown color, unfiltered and hazy, no mahoganey colors, tan colored head on top, some splotchy lacing. The aroma was ashy cigarrettes, some off-meaty notes too. The flavor is smoked ash, faint hints of meat, some astringency and acidic character. Mouthfeel was a little acidic, highly carbonated, but this was a fun brew. Dry smoke in the aftertaste.

This Canadian rauchbier pours a very dark brown colour with a nice big beige head that is creamy, has great retention and creates lots of lace all around. Light brown-red highlights can be seen. Smells mostly like a stout, with coffee, molasses and roasted malt. The smoke aroma is almost not present. At least, it is found a bit more in the taste (I guess they did not want to shock people, that did not know about these rauchbiers). Creamy-tarty mouthfeel with a little stick to it, that is just right for this one. Overall, lacking smoke character, but still pretty good (especially for those who are new to this style).

Bottle: Poured a deep black color lager with a huge medium brown color head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light bitter roasted malt with distinctive notes of smoke. Taste is a mix between some medium smoke malt with some light bitter dry roasted malt note. Full body with good carbonation. I would have enjoyed this with even more smoked notes but very good nonetheless.
