This is more like a hoppy APA versus an IPA. Fresh hopped though, which gives it a smoother mouthfeel, plus the fact that it just isn't that malty. Well balanced, but worth nowhere near the full price tag on this. Even at half off on clearance felt like was slightly pricey. I like Left Hand, but going to stick with their standard beers bottled in 6-packs from now on. Bottle is slightly old so that could have lowered the rating somewhat.

Bottle (from BierZwerg.de). Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, rather floral and fruity hops along with some honeyish sweetness. Flavour is quite similar with a quite strong bitter finish.

Pours a beautiful coppery amber with a thick, off-white, fluffy and persistent head. Strong aroma is hoppy with a firm undertone of citrus, mainly grapefruit and orange, and just a whisper of sweetness. Flavor is hoppy, a little bitter, with a subtle grapefruit tone and a touch of fruity sweetness. Rough, tingly texture leaves a fairly persistent fizz and a hoppy, fruity finish.

Pouts copper with a decent head and lacing. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky sweet. Flavor and aroma of pine and malt. Hops evident but not overwhelming. Nice balance of sweet and hop.

Sampled on 4/27/2009. This IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with god retention and nice lacing. The aroma is grapefruity and floral hops with some caramel malts and a touch of fruit. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The fruit flavors seem to favor melon and peach. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Nice balance between the hops and malts. There is a lot of nice crisp clean bitterness going on here. Lively carbonation. Some nice orange highlights at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.

Split last night with my buddy before an evening out on the town: Poured a bright hazey orange colour with a fairly large white head. Aroma was soft and floral. Hops tossed about, some caramel and a tiny bit of ginger. Mouthfeel I felt was lacking something strong. Needed a bit more firmness. Taste however was mighty fine. Initial sweetness at first that gives away to short bursts of bitter hop notes. Grapefruity fo sho- thanks Brandon!

Bomber. Pours a copper color with a thick off-white head. Very nice sticky lacing. Aroma is malty with a citrus hop scent. Caramel malts are strong in the flavor with some cereal along with citrus hops, with mild to moderate bitterness. Pretty good beer but something was a little off preventing it from being any better. The hops don't finish off strong, the malts are a little heavy (for an IPA) for my liking and there's a mild cereal/grainy thing going on that I wasn't too fond of. Overall not amazing but a good session IPA. I do think I paid too much for it though.

This IPA has a nice pine scented aroma with a clear, gold body and a light, foamy head that has some retention. The mouthfeel is typical of an IPA, with a strong bittering taste that despite the acuity is easy to drink. I really enjoyed this one with a nice Chili dinner. One of my davorite IPA's

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear copper with a creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is spicy piney hops with some sweet sugary caramel malts and lemon in the background.
The flavor is washed out slightly sweet malts and some citrus with nice piney floral hops with decent bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium and kind of watery.
Overall, nice hop aroma and flavors, but the wateriness brings it down some. It's still a quality IPA. -

some piney hops and old pine needles in the nose... head is very impressive, lacing as well.... goes down smooth, and for the abv- quite well hidden... drinkable, but does suffer from being truly good because of the aftertaste, which needs work(some metallic maybe astringent pine can qualities)... Left Hand has never wow'ed me, and this hasn't, but one of there better brews! probably better on tap..i hope..: and for a side note, the new label is a big improvement..
