The British may have invented the pale ale, but we Americans perfected it. Exhibit A: our Special Ale. Sure, we use English ale yeast to ferment Special Ale, but that's where the similarities end. Our signature brew balances a firm malt base (with slight hints of caramel) against a strong push from 100 percent Cascade hops for a fruity aroma and floral finish. Just as the original pale ales were brewed to traverse the globe, Special Ale provides the perfect companion to just about any cuisine. Perhaps that's why it earned a Silver Medal at the World Beer Championships in 2002.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a three finger head that seems to take its time. Aroma is very hoppy with hints of grapefruit, Riesling, and pineapple. Taste is very smooth and creamy with hints of tropical fruits and slight bitterness. Finishes off fairly dry. Lots of carbonation. Easily one of the best APA's I have ever had. Reminds me of a good saison or a blond. Very easy to drink and will have again. Wonderful beer.

This a good pale ale that verges on a saison for some reason. It has that gritty and rough slightly fruit flavor. Just enough bitterness. Foamy thick head, plenty of lacing. Sunny color. The yeast reminds me of saison, not quite belgian, not quite ale.

Very hoppy and bitter. Leaves a very bitter taste in the back of the throat. If it wasnt for the aftertaste this would be a fine beer. Put me off though.

Good pale ale. Bitter when real cold. I let it warm up and it was much better. Smoother, creamy flavor. Great grain scents and hop flavor, amazing lasting flavor. Another quality from Lake Superior.
