750 ml caged and corked bottle. Poured a clear and dark amber-chesnut coloured BdG with a two fingers beige foamy head that had a short retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Poor lacing. The aroma is caramel and toasted malts, coffeish notes, dark fruits, plums. The flavour is caramel malts, bready, dried fruits, faint nuts, a spicy touch with licorice and dark fruits, plums. The mouthfeel is crispy, light tarty and sweety. The texture is oily. This full bodied BdG has a dry malty finish. A characterful Bière de Garde from the renowned and tiny brewery La Choulette, close to Cambrai.

Surprisingly enough amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is earth, slight caramel and some fruits in aroma. Flavour is sweet fruits, metal, yeast and some caramel malts. Some slight bittering hops in finish.

Poured an amber color with a ton of sedimentation. Aroma was of apples grapes. Beer was nice and tart. Flavor was much the same. Alcohol was not hidden well at all, but beer was pretty good.

Poured an amber color, somewhat cloudy, sedimentation at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma was light pineapples over tart apples and some caramel. The flavor was apples, grapes, sourness factor underneath, some spices, pepper, overall fruity tones. Alcohol was a little hot for a biere de garde. Mouthfeel was tart/sour combined, a little too much so for what I was expecting from the style, not as "crisp" as other biere de gardes.

Beer poured looking like a slightly red iced tea. Aroma was barnyard funk. The flavor was funk with a taste like overly ripe mandarin orange, strong tang. Unique type of funkiness in this one that was really pleasant. Nice crisp mouthfeel. Good beer!

It's difficult to really knock a beer on it's color as this seems to me to be the most subjective aspect of grading a beer's quality. With that said, this beer was one of the more unappealing amber colors I've seen - like somebody dumped something odd into a glass of iced tea. Aroma was tainted by an overpowering musty odor and also had some medicinal qualities. Flavor had a nice malt backdrop and some hop presence to round it out, but the mustiness and medicinal qualities ruined it overall. Good alcohol kick also stands out.

Among any of the better amber ales or biere de gardes. This was a well crafted bottle, strong aroma, good mouthfeel and agreeable flavour. Overall good malt, nice subtle blending, among the best of French beers Ive had.

For the price, I should've liked this beer better than I did. Started off well with a foamy off-white head and a clear dark copper colour, and nicely carbonated to boot. (Another one that looked like a Pepsi!). Aroma was almost absent but for an inkling of malt, but that's all. Taste was pleasant but all I could detect was maybe some coffee? Odd beer, probably ideal for washing down one's Freedom Fries.

Bottle. Clear chestnut brown colour with a large off-white head. The nose is malty, fruity, honey perhaps; barnyardy and caramel. Sweet malty taste, noticable but nice alcohol, caramel, fruit and a touch of spice. Nicely balanced. Full bodied, moderate carbonation. I like it a lot.
