A beautiful solid black pour topped with a creamy light tan head that sticks to the sides of the glass. The nose is roasted malt, come coffee, and hints of caramel and vanilla. Mouthfeel is average. Flavor is roasted malt and vanilla, with a nice bitter finish.

This is about what you look for in a black lager. Probably not the best in the world, but overall well-balance, good flavor/feel, and very drinkable. Semi-creamy textured with a dark brown-near black appearance. Flavors of chocolate malt, with some mild hop and nuttiness. An enjoyable brew from it's region of origin.

pours a dark reddish black with a thick medium sized tan head of creamy bubbles with moderate lacing. The aroma is a nice strong aroma of dark roasted malts and caramel. The taste is powerful dark roast flavor, with none of the “graininess” sometimes associated with dark lagers. Caramel malts make their presence known. Esters of nutty toffee, dark fruits, and chocolate as well. Bavarian style hops lurk way back in the flavor profile, but you can taste them if you look for them. Slightly smokey. Fruitiness comes out as it warms. Not overly complex, but perfectly balanced between bitter and sweet. The mouthfeel is light bodied, with medium carbonation, with a dry finish.

Pours a rich sable that is just a flea’s eyebrow above black with a fairly thick, if not overly persistent, light tan head. Strong, roast malt aroma has a firm overtone of treacle. Flavor has a core of roast malt and notes of licorice and brown sugar plus hints of coffee and burnt wood. Smooth texture has good body though not a whole lot of fizz. A worthy and enjoyable schwarzbier.

I had low expectations of this beer and it blew me away. A very black pour with a brown head. Plenty of roasted malt and smoke in the aroma, as well as chocolate. The flavour is smoked wood, chocolate, and molasses. Excellent beer!

It pours a dark brown and orange with a thin light-tan head and copious lacing. An aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, light hops, orange and citrus, raisin, and light spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth but a little thin. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, hops, various citrus notes, bitterness, and mild spiciness. Mmmm...

this is a beer that would have seriously impressed me in my early craft days. the sweet malt, smoke, and hop subtleties are well done. thin feel, but it's smooth and fits the style, and the dryness of the feel blends seemlessly with the dry, roasted chocolate malt flavor.

Cool flip-top bottle, black pour with ample light beige head, sporadic spotty lacing. Aromas of warm molasses, roasted malts, very slight black coffee, touch of earthy hops. A bit thin. Taste has roasted malts and molasses, bit of cocoa, light bitter linger. Pretty darn good Schwarz.

S6L4F2T5O11 Monchshof: From a flip top cage bottle. Quite dark but not as dark or as opaque as expected. Looks more like a lighter root beer or a dark iced tea. Ruff pour yeilds a big tan head. Very nice refreshing dark beer aroma, mouth watering. Good dirt dark flavors, little bitterness which is welcomed. Enjoyable to an extent and mild in its own way. Enough personality to beer a dark beer yet lacks some of the oppressive personality that is so common with many darker brews. Leathery tastes in the background. Finish is tasty with a medium linger. Overall, not a bad darker beer.

This beer’s aroma is clearly it’s best quality. When it hits the right temp, notes of fruit, scorched chocolate, light smoke and chicory coffee really shine. Appearance has a deep brown body, damned near black, with a frothy, sea foamy 3-finger thick head. Soft notes of coffee and chocolate are there, as well as some fruity notes with a touch of yeast. Enjoyable schwarzbier, but nothing exceptional.
