Kootenay Mountain Ale commemorates nearly a century of brewing heritage in the Kootenay region. The packaging depicts the regions first brewery, Fort Steele. Using a unique ale yeast strain used in fermentation, Willamette and Nugget hops and warmer fermentation to enhance aroma, Kootenay Mountain Ale is a rich, darker-coloured beer with a subtle caramel aftertaste.

pours a clear copper color with a slightly off white head that vanished quickly but left mi-nute lacing and a spotty head. the aroma is yeasty, malty and some toasty notes. the taste is malty slight slight hop appearence. the mouthfeel is a bit thin and there is some slight subtle hops in the aftertaste. overall beer is easy to drink and even easier to pound back. enjoyable! :)

This is some pretty vile stuff. It looks good in the glass, sitting their all coppery and clear. The nose is a bit grainy with some hops....not a lot though. The grainyness comes through in the flavour as well, although there is a small amount of nuttiness - just enough to make it unbalancedly vile

Nice deep crystal clear copper brew with minor effervesance and a quick fizz-up / quick death cap with no lacing. The aroma is on the mild side; at least it is not offensive. The dominant smell is of the sweet lightly toasted malts. as well as a touch of fruitiness and an initial short-lived weak rootbeer quality. Taste is pleasant with notable hops that leave some spicy bite but mainly the sweet light toasted malts with a faint caramel flavour . Don't forget a touch of metallic flavour that actually isn't terrible. I like the bitterness throughout - it does have a nice bite to it. Mouthfeel is smooth with fine carbonation and a lasting, pleasant bitter after taste. that surges mid-sip and then gradually fades. Light to medium bodied. Good easy drinking, smooth and mild beer that I would leave on the counter for awhile to max out the flavours.

Deep copper in color, clear and has a decent 2 finger off-white cap with moderate retention....good lacing on the glass..medium-high carbonation. Aroma gives off light berry tones over mild caramel malt and some citrus hopping. Medium to light body, slick mouth feel. Caramel malts up front with the unmistakable piney tang of Pacific NW Willamette and Nugget hops. Finish is wet where you can taste the licorice and toffee tastes which prevail over the metallic twang of the Yakima valley hops. Not really a brown ale but a NW variation. A very decent ale from a brewer most people write off as a Labatt maco brewer.

I have only tried this beer a couple of times, I believe that it is only available in western Canada, but is quite hard to find. Very good tasting, smooth flavor. You can sample for free if you tour the Kokanee brewery!

Red amber color, large head. Matly and mildly hoppy. A medium bodied ale. Some nut-brown flavor. Milder tasting. Mouthfeel is a little thin and round. Finish is smooth and clean. Aftertaste is slightly malty. Somewhat reminiscent of a mild English ale. Nice taste.
