Very malt driven robust brown ale. Possibly a little past it's prime, and that is reflected in the score. Ever so slight vegetal offness. If not for that, this would be an exceptional robust brown. Roast, cofee, dark chocolate, light citrus hops...and unfortunately a touch of green olive :(

Popped this one open and it nearly exploded. Deep mahogant colored with a huge light tan frothy textured head. Great hang time on the head. Thick ringlet is left behind. Beautiful profile in nose and tasting of cocoa, molasses and coffee. Good smooth body.

Aroma has a malty core with subtle chocolate and citrus notes and just a hint of cloves. It pours a dark, hazy, warm brown with a fairly thick and persistent light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Malty flavor has woody, unsweet chocolate and caramel notes plus a fruity hint. Smooth, firm-bodied texture is fizzy and lively, leaving a woody, malty finish.

I got a variety 12 pack of Ipswich beers for Christmas, and this was the 2nd one I tried. Poured dark brown with a nice, tan head that lead to some good lacing. This beer is slightly citrus with chocolate and some spice to it. Fairly dry and well carbonated. Looking forward to trying the others.

New England sample #6- Even though I just got home from NE vacation, I didn't get to sample anything from these guys. Just bought a single tonight to try. Dark amber appearance with not much aroma. OK caramel malty flavor with medium hops at the end. Sort of like an ESB but not quite. Drinkable and decent.... but kind of forgetable.

poured a deep dark brown with just a slight head to it. Had a very nice chocomalt flavor to it and backed it up once I tasted it. I thought the strong malt flavor really worked well with this beer and it had a suprisingly nice hop ending with just enough bite to it. Well done.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy brown color with a medium light-brown head. Strong lacing. Aroma of chocolate, malt, and coffee. Flavor is malty with a strong coffee overtone. Not one of my favorite brown ales.

What a beautiful looking beer poured into a Corsendonk glass. Nice lacing down the sides as it settles into a 1/2" tan head. First whiff is chocolate, followed with molasses and oranges. Taste is roasted malt right up front with a light cocoa powder. Flavors of more orange zest and a nice hope bite are right behind. You can tell almost right away this is a well made beer. Spiciness includes nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon. Almost full bodied, this stuff kicks the crap out of alomost every Brown I’ve had. Who are these guys?
