Hoegaarden Spéciale is, well, special. If it were normal we probably wouldn’t have called it Spéciale. Just for kicks we had an amateur wine tasting club have a crack at describing it. They said it was playfully sour, with a sophisticated pallet and a prolonged aftertaste. We prefer calling it a bit bitter, with a ripe taste and served in a cool glass. They were right about the aftertaste, though.

Nov. 2014: 250 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.7%. Hazy straw colour, large to moderate white head. Strong wheaty and yeasty aroma of citrus / orange peel, coriander and cloves, hints of bananas. The flavour is citrussy and refreshing, followed by moderate spicy notes of coriander and cloves, banana in the finish. Very moderate hops.

Enjoyed at the Bistro L'Autre Oeil in Aylmer, QC. Pours a hazy golden colour with a creamy head, good retention and a little lace. Great banana nose with the wheat, citrus and Belgian Ale yeast. Smooth wet mouthfeel. Wheat taste with the banana notes and a little bubblegum. A refreshing summer wheat beer.

Good, but not quite as good as the regular Hoegaarden. The head was weaker and the lacing not as evident as in the original. Good fruity flavors, but lacking the character that I expected.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a large white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits, coriander, yeast, light vanilla, and cardamom. Taste of citrus fruits, more spices, vanilla cream, and yeast in the finish.

Bottled. Hazy yellow, big creamy head. Yeasty aroma, with fruity. Yeasty, bananaish and citric flavour. A bit better than the normal one.

Bottle. Hazy yellow with a slim, but steady white head. Spicey and citrus aroma. Taste has citrus, banana, fresh yeast with a slightly sour then sweet finish. A thirst quenchingly decent witbier (a bit better than the normal stuff).

hazy orange colour with a fine head, very strong spicy aroma (clove, ginger), notes of vanilla, medium-bodied, strong wheaty character, slightly sweet with a dry finish - better than its overrated brother (I'm guilty too)

Cloudy orange color with fruity aroma. Light, weak white head that went away pretty quickly. Nice lacing though. Sweet, spicy and orangy.
