12 degrees Plato. Brewed in the clasic Bavarian style, no longer common among Czech brewers. We use local wheat and pilsner malts, Saaz hops, yeast bartered from a small Bavarian brewery, and well water to brew a unique sample of Bohemian wheat. The beer is lagered for 50 days, and bottled without filtration.

500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Label says " Herold hefeweizen Bohemian Wheat Lager Kvasnicové psenícné pivo - kvasnícový svetlý lezák 12 degrees plato unfiltered blond lager ABV 5.1%". So is this a "real" hefeweizen (which I thought were technically ales?), or is it a wheat lager with hefeweizen yeast added in the bottle? Or am I asking stupid questions? Anyway, the beer is "murky golden" with a large to moderate head. Aroma is fairly sweet and fruity (blackberries/brambles, blackcurrants?) with hints of sheepshed and old leather. Lagerish elements. Some cloves too, but not as strong as with most German hefeweizens. Flavour is a strange combination of a typical premium lager and a typical hefeweizen. Moderately spicy. Dusty finish. Not bad.

This is available at Binny's as an Austrian beer, not a Czech beer. It's a cloudy gold beer with a huge white head. Spicy malty aroma (cloves, banana) with citrusy hops. Flavour is slightly sweet, wheat and hops well balanced.

Deep golden coloring with a full white head you'd expect from a weiss. Aroma of bannana, hay and yeast is pleasant. Flavor is sweet and malty with yeasty notes towards the finish. Also a bit of bubblegum esters present throughout. Aftertaste is mild and grainy. OK, but not close to Herold's best product.

Straw colored pour, a quick initial carbonation head, didn't stick around long at all after the fizzles went away. Lots of carbonation bubbles on display in the weizen glass. Aroma was strong wheat with only light bananas and clove present. The flavor was pretty awesome, one of the more drinkable weizens, yet it still had the clove and banana elements present. Avoided sugar/sweet put off tendencies by more emphasizing the wheat malt. Finishes more crisp than many a hefe, as well, perhaps because this is a true lagered example of a hefe. Mouthfeel was moderate but heaviliy carbonated.
