Hop varieties: Saaz hops from Zatec and Bor. Malt varieties: Locally produced Czech and Moravian carmel malts. Tasting notes: I would call this one a bronze color, perhaps, with a very good Czech Bohemian Saaz hops aroma. It’s a very fresh, herbal aroma. Quite a big, firm malt background. The malt and hop are really in very good balance, but it’s more than a good balance. It’s almost an interplay, as though at one moment the hops seem to be winning, and the next moment the malt seems to be winning. But it is a lively tasting beer. Brewing notes: First crafted during last century this beautifully robust bronze colored lager is brewed according to its original recipe. Definitely not your ordinary pilsner, nor does it pretend to be. Made from the finest Saaz hops, Czech malts and crystal clear waters from our own natural springs located at our 500 year old castle brewery.

500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Deep golden colour, moderate head. Nice hoppy aroma with hints of caramel. Flavour is fairly malty (at least if you want to categorize this as a pilsener), but a substantial hoppy bitterness and solid ABV (5.8%) make this a very robust relative of the lighter-bodied pilseners. Long bitter aftertaste. Way ahead of your average lager-swill.

The name of this beer in english is Bohemian Bronze Lager 14 and it is a perfect description of the color of this beer - deep bronze with a thick, rich head. The aroma is the only category for this beer that isn't stellar - bready malts are harassed by a persistent soapy note, also a slight metallic taint. Flavor starts out sweet and malty then blooms into a huge, baked bread body. The beer bitters beautifully as it finishes dragging a slight alcohol presence along with it. Probably one of the top-3 lagers I've tried and my favorite from Herold. Not to be missed.

The aroma is crisp with some sweetness and is malty with maybe some slight organic overtones. The appearance is a hazy blonde to a golden, pale yellow when held to the light with a small head on top that diminishes quickly to a light lacing that coats the glass decently well and remains. The mouthfeel is crisp and light-bodied with decent saaz hop complexity with average balance with a palate that is watery but a bit dry. The flavor is organic and malty with maybe some slight hoppy bitter with an aftertaste that is sweet and malty with some bitter with perhaps some very slight floral overtones with a finish that is crisp, dry, and pretty refreshing. Overall, not a complex brew at all but refreshing and not too bad, decent pils here but not the best to date I have had by no means.
