Grand River Galt Knife Old Style Lager

Now I get there may be people out there who like this sort of thing but I found this beer to be absolutely terrible. It was sickly sweet, like drinking liquid caramel. Even the aroma was far too sweet for me. I ultimately wound up giving most of it away to my friend and pouring the rest out.

This is a decent lager but I've had better. A dark gold pour, clear, with a whitish head. Bready and grainy malt dominate the aroma, with some hops, and light fruit. Flavour is a bit on the sweet side for me.

One of two brews from Grand River Brewing that we get at the Ottawa LCBOs in 500ml brown bottles. Stamped on lonely front label, bottled on NOV 23 2010. Pours a slightly hazy (not filtered to the max) amber colour. The head is decent with minimal lacing, but a nice 2-3mm thickness coats the beer and stays. Very light carbonation. Sweet grainy malt aromas. Mild bread malt flavours mixed with the hoppy finish which adds a little bitterness. Quite mild though. Wish it would pack more of a punch (should have more alcohol). This could be a great lager.

The beer pours a translucent reddish gold with a 2" tan coloured head that lingers. The aroma is citrusy hops, and sweet malt in behind. Hoppy lagers are almost always good. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is citrusy hops, light fruits, and cereal malt. Very enjoyable and easy drinking beer.

Bottled on march 8 2010. Pours a nice orange/copper colour with a good sized white cap, good retention and beautiful lacing. The aroma has some malt and some bitterness. Flavour starts with a slight fruitiness then immediately goes hoppy with a great bitter finish. Well carbonated, medium mouthfeel goes down easy with lots of flavour. Good beer.

Bottle: Poured a bright golden color lager with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of unrefined cereal with some dry notes. Taste is not as pleasant as I had hoped for with notes of unrefined cereals and stale grain. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Not bad but definitely not the best from this fine brewery.

Fresh on tap at the Castle...first kegged release. The Tap produced a brilliant deep orange colored lager with a rich sticky 2 finger creamy cap that will support a dime. Aroma is lightly floral, light wisps of fruit, some toast and caramel malts. Profile: thick mouth feel catches those toasty-sweet rich malts at first then a sweeping rush of piney hop bittering comes in and continues to intesify into the finish which is clean, drying with a good hop bite to it....lingering bitter after taste. If you like Steam beers or Brookyn lager this is your dream lager..hoppy to the max, ale like and the finish is ripe with hops.
