SMELL: Hops and fruit. TASTE: Strong fruit and hops flavor DRINK-ABILITY: A good beer with a strong hops profile. Enter the Hop Gun, the Buddha's take on an IPA, where it's highway to the flavor zone! Ahem, sorry. I was poured a tumbler full of the golden amber India Pale Ale, which kept a nice two finger head for the majority of my experience. The carbonation of the bitter brew constantly kicked up lovely herbal and citrus pith-like hop aromas. A bit more mild than a full-on pine forest in the glass, which I found to be a relief compared to some examples of the style produced recently. There's a nice malty kick upfront when you drink, which blends in with the alcohol of the beer. It clocks in at 7.7% abv., so the heat of the alcohol is melded with the malt. That flavor profile transitions to a hit of fresh hop bitterness on the back of the palate; tasting jargon for 'sweet to bitter'.

Taps clear dark amber with a thin but serviceable buff head that leaves good lacing. Aroma presents hoppy, grapefruit, floral, woody and fresh malt notes. Flavor delivers hops, zesty grapefruit, floral and malty character - quite enjoyable. Body is quite firm, fizz is lively and lasting. I feel the need - the need for beer!

At World of Beer, Key West. Dark orange pour, small off-white head, with thin lacing. Subdued aroma, no pine, some citrus. Above average mouth. Okay flavour, more citrus than the aroma, more malt as well. I'd like more bitterness.

Very mild nose tiny bit of pine little bit of malt. Clear orange cover buddy topped with minimal head with poor retention and no lace. Matthews medium and dry. Taste is very clean very simple mostly better Walter minimal not a lot of pine not a lot of citrus. Finishes dry and neutral clean. Alcohol fairly well masked although the bottle says 7 percent

Finally got to try some Funky Buddha. Been trying to get to the brewery the rare times I make it South FL, but usually just hit Due South instead since it's right off the highway. Still haven't made it to the brewery, but found this on tap at Swank Southern Kitchen. A smooth IPA with some good flavor, but could be a little hoppier and/or a little maltier. Decent balance as well, just not sure I'd quite call this a West Coast style. More representative of the toned-done East Coast IPAs. Had a Cigar City Jai Alai right after and that was packing a bit more flavor. I didn't know that this ABV was 7.7%, so that's a plus.

After a hiatus, I am back sampling. And my first, my first from Funky Buddha. A bright orange-amber colored beer with a big sudsy textured, off white head standing above. There's some decent hang time on the head. Settles into a thin ringlet. The aroma ismild for the stule. Citric hopped. And that profile of grapefruit mostly comes out in a nice tasting. Medium body and intense alcohol presence.
