A beer in the style of a pale ale with a twist of rye, Riptide is made for the beer drinker that likes big flavour. The bold hop flavours blend well with the addition of rye, which lends a creamy mouthfeel and a slightly spicy finish to this hop-forward, yet well-balanced beer. Like the Capital Blonde Ale, this brew benefits from the careful addition of “late hops” at the end of the boil.

Not one of the better examples of the style, and that sucks. A cloudy amber colour with a half inch foamy tan coloured head. There is rye in the aroma, but it is quite weak compared to other rye beers in Ontario. Also some citrusy hops and light fruits. The flavour is more citrus, and less spicy rye. Decent if you prefer your rye beers rye-less.

Pours a fairly small frothy off-white head that dissipates to a thin cap and has a pale golden appearance. Some sticky lace remains. Aromas of sweet and toffee malts and earhty hops. Flavours are of toffee and caramel malts, some sweetness in there as well. Yeasty notes come through in the finish. Some fairly strong bready malts and bitter hops also in the mix after a little while. Pretty good balance between sweetness and bitterness.

Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a frothy warm cap, average retention, but some decent creamy-bubbly lace. Sweet aromas of caramel malts, rye grain with hints of honey and light grass. Creamy mouthfeel. The taste is thankfully not sweet. Nice rye grain with a very mild soapy hop finish. Kind of peppery I guess. Becomes hazy at last pour. Not too hoppy, making this a mild pale ale, but an overall good rye beer with a nice mild spicy finish.

The beer pours a translucent dark gold colour with a frothy white head that laced well. Aroma is rye, spices, and an abundance of herbal notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is rye, and spices with some weak caramel notes thrown in for good measure. -

Bottle and on tap at the brewery - pours a clouded tawny color with a 2 finger capl Aroma is spicy, malty, slightly herbal with some light mustiness. Medium bodied, peppery mouth feel, spicy rye character. Flavor has the malts come frontside for a second - spicy rye and a little toastyness, before the hops balance it out well - clean lightly bitter-spicy finish with a hop bite at the end. Very solid rye ale and the best offering from this brewer so far.
