The beer pours a solid black colour with a creamy brown head that lasts and delivers good lacing. The aroma is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and dish soap. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is coffee forward with hints of dark fruit and chocolate. A very good beer.

355ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a pretty big frothy tan head, thick dirty soapy lace, has a dark brownish appearance. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of roasted malt, crystal malt, grassy and herbal hops, a little bit earthy as well. Flavours are mostly the roasted malts and earthy, herbal hops. A little of sweetness in the finish. At 10%abv, goes down quite well and smoothly. Dry mouthfeel with a tad bit of bitterness on the palate.

355ml bottle with 10% ABV from the LCBO. Aromas of molasses and hints of Bourbon over the roasted malts. Coffee notes eventually come out with a tad nuttiness, caramel and hops. Dark brown colour, almost black with light copper highlights, a creamy, frothy, light mocha-coloured head, very good retention and beautiful creamy lacing. Good bitterness in the mouth lingering showing some grassy hops. Roasted malt background, but not much more. Just really hoppy, bitter, Imperial Porter.

Notes from 2012. 2006 edition. Rounded pint glass pour. Tar-ish black, droopy pour. Minimal tan head. Looks almost flat. Smells of Dark/burnt/charred bread & oats, faded hops, & sharp/dark fruit. Taste is more sooty, with burnt bread, old chocolate, cardboard, & caked malt. Mellow. No hint of sourness. Quite different with age, but still not a fan.

Pours darkest brown with full, creamy head. Nice lacing remains as you sip it down. The aroma seemed fairly light with understated burnt malt and coffee notes. The flavor is much bigger with earth, coffee, a faint chocolate sweetness playing against floral and citrus hops bitterness. Very tasty. Full bodied, creamy, almost viscous. I've had a few Flying Dog beers and this is certainly their best showing. Thanks to mwiscount for picking this out for me.

Pours a near black color with medium sized tan head that has a decently long retention time and nice lace. The aroma is of chocolate, dark fruits, and a tinge of booze. The taste follows the aroma, with the bittersweet chocolate and dark fruits plus some nice charred malts. Get some alcohol, but it isn't distracting. The bitterness lingers for quite a while along with the charred notes. Note Porters and Stouts are my least favorite style of beer. M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Could be a littler smoother, but it certainly isn't bad

Pitch dark with darker brown foam head. Aroma is chocolate, toffee, no sweets. Taste is similar, good thick taste, solid dark porter. Good appetizer for dinner. Short aftertaste. (Velp 201209) -

From Full Throttle Bottles, Seattle. Modest brown head (left a slight ring behind) over a near-black body. Great aroma of coffee, malt, and dark chocolate. Flavour also had these same qualities, along with the alcohol, and the alcohol was really only at the forefront at the finish. Indeed, the last few sips were quite powerful. Lovely smooth mouthfeel. Great beer.

An outstanding porter. It pours a solid dark black colour with a creamy chocolate brown head. Roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate, and coffee are the dominant notes in both the aroma and flavour. Alcohol is hidden extremely well in this beer.

A very deep, dark brownish/black color. Minimal ruby highlights around the bottom. A thick tan head that was very creamy and smooth. Nice retention and slightly above average lacing. A dark roasted, toasty malt that presented tones of coffee and a sweet chocolate. Nicely balanced. A nice milky tone. Not overly robust, but correct. A creamed wheat aroma also. The taste brought out a very, very nice bittersweet chocolate with subtle coffee flavors. A very slight taste of alcohol, but nothing overpowering or distracting. A bit of a chalky taste as it warmed. A welcome hop bitterness that fit in nicely. The hop bitterness really becomes more pronounced as it warms. Medium/full mouthfeel. Very creamy and smooth. A nice little hop bite and the flavor glides across the palate and stays there until the next sip. Suitable dryness. A smooth alcohol warmth at the end. I think this beer is very solid. Very nicely balanced and quaffable considering the high ABV. This beer is great on cool days and evenings. Worth a try and a beer I would be more than happy to pick up again. I could drink several of these with out batting an eye.
