Dark brown beer served in 0.4 liter glasses at U Fleku. Apparently, the recipe has been in use since 1499, and it does taste close to perfection. Very smooth porter-style beer. As far as I know, it is unavailable outside of the U Fleku beer hall/restaurant.

What a wonderful beer! That place was magic.. The musicians, the waiters, the sausages.. I took 3-4 pints of flekovsky and I can say for sure, that it was the most amazing beer I've ever drunk. The Price: 69 Czech crowns for 500ml.

Docene, on tap at the brewpub. Poured an unfiltered deep brown colored beer with a one finger beige creamy foamy head that had a long retention. Great lacing. The aroma is a sourish bitterness, roasted malts. The flavour is slight sourish, burned roasted malts, notes of chocolate, coffee. The mouthfeel is slight crispy. This medium bodied beer has a lingering sourish - burned with sweet coffee aromas end. May be a beer cult, but it's really not my favorite czech pivo.

Draught. Deep rubyish brown colour with big beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolateish notes as well as toffee. Flavour is quite much the same in a good balance. Big palate. Good beer, but crappy place...

Had to make the pilgrimage to U Fleku to get this, the guy i asked for directions gave a knowing smile. A really decent beer, this one suprised me, looking like a stout but tasting smooth like a well smoked lager. So easy to get down, with just the right amount of bitterness. Be warned, the Waiters will just put another one down right after you finish.

First, U Fleku is virtually a must-go in Prague for the beer drinker. It has a festival atmosphere--live old-fashioned music, lots of outdoor seating--and the staff just circulates with trays of the house beer and shots of what I think is their bitters. No waiting! You have an empty glass, unless you tell them no, they pop down another one in front of you. A very tasty brown beer, porter-like in taste. A bit sweet, but that's pretty well in line with other darker Czech beers. Good rocky head and some tastiness in the foam itself. A very smooth beer, very good for a session or for lingering over. I loved the shots as well. Anyway, this is one of the places to go!

Presented in a 750mL flip-top bottle, from the small gift shop at U Fleku. I'm glad that a buddy of mine took the time/effort to bring this all the way from Prague to San Diego, for our homebrew club meeting!

Poured pretty well, with a nice even and yet rocky layer of foam in the glass. Body fairly opaque -- dark but still fairly brown in the body.

Rather obtuse in the nose. No off-notes, but, at the same time, nothing that really invites the drinker to power this beer down in one fell swoop.

No, for it would be a shame to slam this down, IMHO. Rather, take the time to get aquainted with this long-distance visitor. Enough malt to make sure that this has enough girth, and enough of a hop profile to make sure that this was bitter enough for everday use. Perhaps it could be a bit more distinctive, but still pretty worth-while....

Considering that this is the default "House Beer" of U Flecku, it only stands to reason that it would have a "common denominator" flair to it. I like.

    Overall, recommendable.

Visited the famous U Fleku brew-pub in Prague after Nancy's marathon (see Retailer review). This old (5 centuries old?) recipe "black" beer is very satisfying. Pours fairly still, with no foam or lacing. Dark brown, not black at all, but opaque. Spicey-oaky aroma and sweet taste with a balanced mouthfeel. An easy drinking ale, good for people-watching in an old world capitol.

Draught at U Fleku. Served too cold. Very dark brown, nearly black colour - impenetrable for light. Moderate creamy tan head. Lovely aroma of leather and oak, dark chocolate and liquorice. Flavour is malty and moderately roasty, notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Never mind the inflated prices (by Czech standards), this beer is a must (at least once). And the liqueur we were forced to buy (which I drank AFTER the beer) actually tasted not-too-bad.

Excellent beer! Supposedly the same beer has been brewed at U Fleku for some 500 years! Don't mess with success!

I have tried this beer on two occasions, and both times I couldn't quit drinking it! Excellent porter-style beer, with nutty and malty overtones, yet smooth and easy to consume in mass quantities. I had 2 liters the first time.... Best served with potato dumplings; washes down the relatively nasty Becherovka liquor quite nicely. Only available at U Fleku, I believe.
