A Deep, Rich Organic Porter No other beer shows off what malts can do in a beer better than porter. Certified Organic Porter uses a complex blend of five malts that compliment and highlight one another in a harmonious mixture. Only one addition of imported Pacific Gem hops is used to provide a balancing bitterness without introducing any other hop character. While decidedly in the robust porter category, Certified Organic Porter has none of the harsh character people often associate with dark ales. Instead, what one finds is a rich, smooth beer with suggestions of chocolate and just a hint of coffee. So smooth and malty, this porter will convert even the non-dark beer drinker. The beer poured an opaque dark with very slim tan head, which left spotty lacing. The smell included chocolate, peat, and some hints of roast. The taste was good, sweet malts (chocolate & caramel) are present along with a touch of coffee/espresso and peat. Mouthfeel was a medium to light body, with low carbonation. Overall it was an ok porter.

When I read the reviews, then saw how thin this poured, I was ready for a just about average or so-so porter. This definitely didn't let me down. Has a nice bold flavor for thin-textured dark. The chocolate, coffee, toffee, licorice, etc.....are all there, but not super-heavy on the malt. The hop finish is a bit stronger and fresher than average which is nice. I am interested in getting this again, as I only bought a single to sample...................... RESAMPLED ON 3/18/11: Found on sale for $6.99/six @ Whole Foods ($3 off) Jumped on it! 2nd sample is rated just as remembered. This is a solid porter. Loving the discount too.

Found this one at the local "giant" Redwood Valley Market. Every once in a while they stock something a little more unusual. I found this porter to be pleasantly dark, nicely sweet, but a little thin on flavor. A reasonable value for the money. Would I buy it again -- with out a doubt.

An enjoyable if not memorable porter. This beer pours a brownish mahogany with a nice beige head. The aroma is a bit muted, in my opinion. There are notes of sugar cane, chocolate and some light hops. The flavor is a tad too sweet but quite satisfying. The mouthfeel is creamy and rich. It’s a very easy beer to drink. There’s quite a bit of flavor for the size of the beer.

Even a hard pour couldnt get a good head. Strong smell Licorice. Mouth feel very weak. Color is dark brown. I would have a problem claiming that this is a Porter. Black licorice taste. I would never buy this again.

a fairly well balanced roasty (but dirty) porter that was slightly better and more balanced with thr roast malt/coffee flavor and hops. a little light and bubbly bodied for the style. looks good. tastes ok.

What a nice pour. So much anticipation built in it. A rich deeply dark blackness. Topped with a moderate frothy tannish head. Settles quickly into some decent lacing. Semi sweetness of chocolate strikes the nose. Light like an organic. Taste is chocolate and coffee. The pour promised more than the beer delivered. But it really isn’t bad.

Bottle pour is dark brown/black with a reddish hue and a thin tan head. The aroma is rich with dark chocolate and espresso. Thin mouthfeel accompanies a pleasant heavy malt taste. I notice bread crust, burnt toast, and roasted marshmallows. This is a nice porter.

Pours a dark brown colour, nearly black with dark reddish tints. Excellent brown head, noticeable lacing aorund the glass. Aroma is sweet, and coffee like with toffee. Mouthfeel is creamy, full and smooth. Flavors again of chocolate covered espresso beans, butterscotch and chocolate milk. tastey beer!!

Strong porter, huge coffee taste. The tast might be considered overpowering. It tastes like I am drining black coffee all the way down to the aftertaste. I would few it lacks a basic beer taste.
