Mad Bruin is the second release from our Bird of Prey series. This Belgian style, Oud Bruin (Old Brown), was aged in oak barrels for 16 months and then blended with a young ale for a unique profile of delicate malt, acidity and oak ageing. Mad Bruin will continue to develop more complexity with cellaring.

From Central City, in a bomber. Pours a dark cola brown, with nary a sign of any head. Aroma reminded me of sour cherries, and the flavour was supremely sour. Some pucker factor here, also at the finish, which also had a sour apple note. Nice mouthfeel.

I'm admittedly a big fan of Driftwood. I think that this side of the border, they're easily the best in the West. And they seem to be just getting started. This beer was really excellent. Pricy, but a good gateway sour. Tart, barnyard flavours, sour apple/cherry, but intoxicating!
