Dogfish Head's first lager ever! A 9% abv monster that still drinks crisp and cool, is brewed with all continental pilsner malt and hopped with the finest noble hops grown here in the US, Vanguard and Ultra. We then dry-hop it in the conditioning tank for 8 weeks. This was originally brewed as "Golden Shower Imperial Pilsner" in August of 2007 and showed up later as an incarnation under the name of "Golden Era."

Bottled in 2007 - fairly aged sample, and it turned out to be in real nice form. Clear golden pour with a creamy white head and generous amounts of spotty lacing. Grassy, peppery aroma that leads to notes of sugary vanilla and pale malts. A touch tart and funky as well. No indication of the 9% abv, mouth feel is sharp and succinct. Bitter hop aftertaste along with a light sweet tartness that rolls. Flavors are real tasty, it's creamy with generous amounts of grainy/grassy malt. Strong noble hop presence along with a minor lemon/citrus aspect coupled with pine. Delicate for such a big beer, seems nicely aged and is still going strong. Pleasantly cohesive.

Golden color. Grassy hops, citrus and rum in the nose. Loads of sweet malt, rounded and peppery. More or less a typical, albeit well made, strong Polish lager.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear dark golden/orange colour with a small white head. Fresh noble grassy hops, minerals with fruity undertones of apricots. Medium to full-bodied with notes of apricots, tangerine, minerals and grassy elegant hops. Gives an extremely well-balanced impression. Long finish of grassy and mineraly hops with fruity undertones of yellow fruit. Much better than Samuel Adams version IMO.

Aroma is very bready and malty with some saaz character coming through as well as some bitterness and sweetness. Appearance golden-amber in color when held to the light with a very full head on top that is creamy and soapy and remains leaving wonderful, thick lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with very nice balance between hops and malts with a palate that is clean and crisp. Flavor is bready malt and sweetness with some notes of hops with an aftertaste that is crisp and a finish that is bold and clean. Overall, great example of style here for sure and named "Golden Era" rightly so; recommended.

Darker shade of gold, slightly hazy with nice head and lacing. Fruity and floral in the aroma with hops and a touch of malt. Mild malty flavor followed by a pretty big spicy, fruity, hop bite. Grapefruit and oranges are the fruits that come to mind. Somewhat tangy finish but overall the flavors balance extremely well. There's a lot of flavor and enough complexity to this while being very refreshing to make it a good beer. Unfortunately it is expensive and only brewed every once in a while. If you see it I definitely recommend giving it a try!

Bottle: Poured a deep golden color ale with a small foamy head with some retention but no lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry European hops. Taste is a weird mix between a very sweet malt base with some dry hops at the end. Body is quite full with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I thought this was way too sweet and not the best form this usually interesting brewery.

Golden Era, my first imperial pilsner. This beer poured with a light copper/amber body topped off by a small white head that held well leaving nice lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is sweet and malty with some nice bitter floral hops coming through as well. The mouthfeel is medium and smooth with no real note of the 9% alcohol. soft creamy malty flavor with some nice spicy floarl hops coming through in the finish, despite the 9% percent alcohol this tastes like it could be drank as a session beer. Incredible smoothness with a nice flavor.

Deep golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is US hops, hay and not much other exciting things. Flavour is the same along with a slight sting of alcohol.

Pours with a reddish-orange body topped by a meidum thick to thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a nice candy sugar note and a grassy hop note. Meidum bodied, smooth and a touch warming.

I almost pissed myself when I saw this at KP’s gathering. Ok enough lame jokes onto the beer. A saaz hop and hay aroma. It poured a cloudy yellow appearance as you would expect. The flavor was very sweet with some lemons and more hay present. It had a perfume quality to it. Pretty good beer.
