For the first time, Samuel Adams is celebrating the fall hops harvest with the introduction of Samuel Adams(r) Imperial Pilsner 2005 Harvest. This is the first beer to reach market using this year's Bavarian hops crop. This one-of-a-kind brew uses enormous, almost reckless, quantities of Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops selected fresh from this year's Bavarian hops harvest, making it one of the "hoppiest" beers in the world. The quality of these hops give the beer an unmatched flavor dimension and complexity and drinkability, even at these elevated BU (bitterness unit) levels.

This beer is in the 100th percentile on RateBeer for both overall and style and it's easy to see why. This is an excellently balanced pilsener with a high ABV. Most brewers tend to have their alcohol show through at this level, but this beer still displays a nice malty backbone and a ghood touch of hops. Highly recommended

Bottled@Bishops Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Golden colour, big white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and earthy hops along with some wooden and sappy notes. Flavour is brutally bitter fruity and grassy hops along with some hints of fruits. Dry grass in finish too. Wellbalanced and quite pleasant.

This poured a thick top, followed by nice aromatics.Great almost light brown color. The hops kick you in the face, then a smoothness, then a nice bite at the end.My best buy date was 1jan2009 and almost 17 months later this is still a great beer, will recommend trying this beer.

Pours a cloudy orange/amber with a thin to medium white head. Citrus and floral to the nose with an intense hoppiness. Medium feel in the mouth followed by a clean finish. Good, but not stellar.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The label reads best before Jan. 09 and it was sampled on 6-24-09. Appearance: The body has a deep orange amber color with a few random and tiny bubbles of carbonation here and there. Its clarity is very good as well. The head is very thick and creamy with about a two and a half finger thick ness. It is light tan in color and very long lasting which makes for nice sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Smell: The aroma is really rich and full of leafy/spicy hops and pale bready malt. Taste/Mouth: The flavor, like its aroma, has an intense spicy/leafy/herbal hop character. It is in you face with hops and bitterness. Under this heavy layer of hops is a simple and very modest pale bready malt flavor. There is just enough malt presence in there to remind you that this is a beer and not just a bottle of hop extract. It finishes with slowly with a strong hop flavor and bitterness that clings to tongue and feels like it is pulling the enamel off of your teeth. The palate has a full, thick body and slick texture with light carbonation. Notes: This is a big, full hop bomb and I even sampled it a few months passed its freshness date. I love hops and the flavor was very good but I am not the biggest hop head in the world so for me the drinkability was low on this one. A little bit of this goes a long way.

This beer poured a slightly cloudy amber color. It had a tall fluffy cloud of a head. Had a pleasent hop aroma with subtle caramel malt and citrus notes coming through. Crisp hop bite in the flavor with pine needles and floral nuances. Long finish. Very nice.

definitely hoppy, and definitely strong. the hop variety isn't one that i'm crazy about...smells better than it tastes, but this is a well done beer. recomended for hopheads.

Rating this as i drink my second, it looks and smells like a IPA or IIPA. An almost burnt orange body with average carbonation and a yellowish tinged head that leaves plenty of good lace. Aroma has floral and some citrus notes, flavor is dominated by the hop tartness, with a dry finish. I am not normally a big fan of pilsners and this was my first Imp. pilsner, but i liked this stuff.

I would hardly call this a beer. It's more of a nectar, really. If this is a pilsner, then all other pilsners be damned. When I first saw this beer in its bottle, it looked a little thin to me. But was I ever wrong. It pours thick syrupy orange amber with a thin foam cap. I smell HOPS! The hoppy smell gives way to a slight floral aroma as I prepare to enjoy this fine pilsner. The moutfeel is syrupy and thick and the taste is of floral hops. There is a slightly salty after taste. Changup45 was right about this being similar to Dogfish Head's. But this is a little lighter with a cleaner finish. It's a very good beer, but a little expensive IMHO.

Pours out a dark golden color with a white head that leaves a decent amount of lacing. I found this beer to be very hoppy and enjoyable, and the finish is very crisp and dry. Definitely worth a try.
