10-28-2008 was a great day for me... Sam Calagione, from Dogfish Head Brewery, one of the most well-known American brewers, came to Borgorose to create and brew a special beer in collaboration with us. We chose a style: a Pilsner. But obviously not a regular one... we designed a something stronger, around 7 % ABV and of course it had to be hoppy! We choose the malt: Pilsner and Cara-Pils. Easy! Sam chooses two hops, Simcoe and Warrior, I choose the third one: Saaz. Traditional and new ingredients together. We start the mash, then we lauter and start the boil, the crowning moment. Before the boil started Sam mixed the hops creating a wonderfully perfumed potion. Once the mix was ready we started hopping. A fistful of hops was added every minute for 60 minutes... The result? An intriguing beer, extremely perfumed, where floral and resiny notes mix together. The mouth feel is explosive but balanced at the same time. The honey notes form the malts and the peppery ones from the hops mix in a very elegant and precise finish. I can't stop drinking it, it's my new favorite....

750 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Strong sweetish aroma of American hops and carapilsener malts, notes of citrus fruit / orange marmalade. Soft mouthfeel. Sweet flavour with distinct and fruity American hops throughout. A tasty and enjoyable beer, the alcohol is not well hidden though. Medium bitter finish. Tastes more or less like an American IPA, not much "pilsener" about this one.

it's been too long since i had the other to compare this to the DFH version. This one was more expensive, and likely not as fresh. Still pretty hoppy, especially in the nose. Pleasant soft citrus and yeasty. Flavor rolls across the tongue. Sharp hops but not aggressive. I'd drink this often if it were cheaper.

Darker yellow with decent lasting snowy white foam head. Aroma is decent hoppy, taste is nice bitter hops with some fruit tone, tickling in mouth. Nice bitter aftertaste, lasting. (Catania 201212)

Light, crisp and extremely fruity. A very soft pilsner that masks the strong alcohol content. Passion fruits and a fruity yeast are set on top of a big grass and biscuit malt content. Effervescent pour of a golden yellow hue producing a billowing white head and ample lacing. Nicely executed.
