Clear dark ruby (almost dark brown) with small light brown foam head. Aroma is light sour, some leaves. Taste slightly bitter, some port, some bread. Lasting aftertaste. (Velp 201402)

Hoppier than expected, dry finish, burnt malts...definitely an interesting beer that I likely wouldn't have pegged easily as a porter. Brown in color, but after that it defies style a bit. I like it for being unique, but likely a one timer.

My second De Molen, love the bottles, this beer not the stand out that heaven and hell was though. Brown ale more than porter I guess, or lets say a brown ale take on a porter. Slightly bitter, dry, really light bodied, some carbonation, lots of cereal, lots and lots of dry grains and cereal in the flavour, little hops presence at all. Cracker like but not dry. Some cold coffee, and some brown rice. Perhaps a note of tartness when warmer. Some anise when warmer too. Complicated and yet when drinking it just seems like a really light bodied, slightly watery, slightly light tasting porter/brown ale. Want to giver higher marks, but if porter is the take here... just cant do it.

330 ml capped bottle bought at the brewery. Poured in the original De Molen chalice an opaque dark-brown / black coloured ale with a generous one finger tan creamy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is heavy roasted malts, heavy burnt coffee beans and spicy, licorice. The flavour is huge roasted coffee beans, sweety malts, dark chocolate, a point of spices, pepper. The mouthfeel is creamy, crispy, notes of ashes and an explosion of coffee beans, overall a nice smoothness. This medium bodied Porter has a lingering roasted coffee beans finish. Not only an intensely roasted Porter but also a huge bowl of coffee with the extra alcoholic touch. I like it.

Bottle, kindly shared by abemorsten. ABV is 5.2%. Apparently matured on toasted oak chips. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Big to moderate beige head. Nice aroma of mildly roasted malts, wood and ashes. The flavour is dry, oaky and moderately roasty. A slight acidity in the finish.

Pours out in a dark ruby brown colour with a rich and lively tan-coloured foam. Roasted malts, burnt caramel, licorice and cocoa-powder in the aroma. Medium-bodied with touches of roasted malts, anise, nuts and caramel. Medium-bitter finish of anise, yeast, coffee and roasted malts.

Bottled. Quite coca-cola coloured with mediumsized brown fluffy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, some nuts, caramel as well as salted licorice and mild sour coffeeish notes. Flavour is roasted malts, sour coffee as well as salted licorice and mild notes of caramel malts. Good porter.
