"Strike Out" is brewed with 6 malts including a balanced portion of chocolate and crystal malts. It is also brewed with 5% flaked oats for a velvet-like mouth feel. English pale, Munich and black malt, plus roasted barley round out the malt bill. Considerably lower in alcohol than both Benchwarmer Porter and Old Slugger Pale Ale, "Strike Out" is a well-rounded stout, opaque black in color with a roasted palate.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the label. Appearance: The body has a deep dark brown, nearly black color. It is very dark and nearly opaque. On top sits a small one finger thick foam head. It is tan in color and quickly settles down to a thin wispy layer that just covers the top. Lacing is minimal and slippery. Smell: There is a firm aroma of sweet roasted/toasted malts with notes of fresh brewed coffee and just a hint of dark chocolate. Taste/Palate: There is a solid sweet roasted malty character with a good balance of toasted bready notes and dark roasted bitter coffee notes. As the beer warms hints of dark chocolate and mild spicy hops sneaks in there here and there as well as some mellow almost brandy like alcohol notes. The palate has a solid medium feel with mellow balanced carbonation. Notes: This is just a good solid stout.

The last of my evening sampling of beers bought by my dad in a recent trip from DE to Syracuse, NY. His mission was to grab beers not available in DE. He accomplished that mission. After trying 4 of these beers, I've come to realize WHY these beers don't escape the immediate area. Anyway, on to this beer. I'm pouring the beer and it is freaking beautiful...dark, dark, dark brown with nice big fluffy head and the head is really dark brown. I love the looks. I smell it and it smells like burnt wood. It reminds me greatly of Great Divide St. Bridgets. It also tastes a little like St. Bridgets...like burnt wood and licorice. However, this beer went horribly awry on the mouthfeel. I always thought the best way to screw up mouthfeel was to make it flat. I found out the opposite is also true in this beer. This beer is so overly carbonated, I honestly had trouble tasting the beer over the bubbly mouthfeel. Can a beer taste like bubbles? Have you ever tried to drink a hot soda and the carbonation is so strong you can barely taste the soda? Anyway, I could taste hardly anything more than the aforementioned burnt wood and licorice. No real good coffee taste, no chocolate, no sweetness. Anyway, the memorable aspect was the bubbles, that can't be good, can it?

Poured a near black with creamy tan head. When held to the light you pick up the ruby hues through the glass. Aroma is of dark roasted malt with coffee and a hint of port. The flavor was of coffee and roasted grain the best part was the finish. It had a good mix of sweet with a smooth bitter finish that was pleasant. This one is a keeper.

First of all I have to say that I am not a real lover of stouts. However, this was more enjoyable than many others that I have tried. The aroma was an interesting combination of a coffee/chocolate smell. The beer poured a beautiful black color in the glass with a nice head. There wasn't the lasting bitterness in the taste of this stout....one to try!

Black color with medium tan head. Aroma was tinny, roasted coffee and wet cardboard. thing going on. Taste was dry and acidic. Mouthfeel was smooth but I didn't care for this at all.

Quite tasty, a dry stout I would make a regular if it were easy to find in my area. Pours pitch black, with a healthy bubbly head. Aroma is dark malts, chocolate, roasted coffee, and even some dark fruits. Flavor is roasted and very sweet, an espresso-like quality, as well as some great chocolate flavors. Finish is burnt and bitter, some from hops, and some from roasted barley. An excellent beer to say the least.

Pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick tan head with a decent amount of lace left on the glass. Smokey burnt malt aroma with a slight sweetness in the background. Slightly sweet, smokey malt flavor with a burnt malt finish. Full bodied and slightly dry.
