One of the original beer bars in Ontario, if not the original, was C’est What? In downtown Toronto. They originally brewed their own beers before finding out that if you remove the vessels and contract out the brewing, you have more room for paying patrons. A solid lineup of beers has kept this place going for over 20 years now. Al’s Cask Ale is listed as an ESB. It pours a clear light cherry red colour with a light tan head. Aroma is caramel malt, and a touch of both earthy and floral hops. Flavour is a tad sweet as the malt kicks in right away while the hops take their time.

I have this cask ale on tap many times at C'est What in Toronto. I consider it a standby when I don't yet know what to order off their extensive list, kind of like beer comfort food. I find it varies in quality ( last taste was acidic). Average beer that varies in quality, either through brewing or serving.

I tried this beer on draught on January 16,2012 at "C'est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent red colour with gold hues and a thin creamy tan coloured cap. The aroma was butterscotch, grains, and weak citrusy hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, caramel, butter, and weak citrus. A pretty good beer.

The quintessential session beer at C'est What. Colour - clear, light brownish-gold, creamy white cap. Aroma - sweet malt, toffee, hops. Mouthfeel - medium bodied. Flavour - slightly sweet, fruity, bitter finish, no aftertaste. Overall - dvery good.
