Delightful is an understatement! Too long has this beer been denied us by AB's lawyers! Finally, under the name Czechvar, some states are selling it. Sweet, with a slightly bitter hop, the finish is pleasant and maybe just a little fruity.

I picked this beer up from the Barrel Chest in Roanoke, VA. This was a nice clean crisp beer with some sweetness. No presence of extract - a very solid lager. I think I like Czech Rebel a bit more, but only by a hair.

Hmmm. best before date of last August. Pours a very clear light amber with a sub-one finger head. Decent amount of carbonation. Typical Czech lager aroma and is very sweet it seems. Taste is metallic and somewhat bland on the malts. Somewhat refreshing. Don't know if it held out or if it is a bad bottle. May have to try a fresher bottle.

This one has an odd smell, almost offputting. However, the taste and mouthfeel is generally full bodied and clean. Not my favorite, but I would drink again.

This stuff is really pretty good. It is a refreshing pilsner that pours sparkling gold with a thin ring of foam. Crisp flavor with a little pilsner bite. Mouthfeel is very good for the style. Refreshing with a clean finish.

A delightfully refreshing example of the art of Pilsner. One cannot help be be impressed with its freshness and clean taste. If I was in a Czech mood, this would be first choice.

Clear yellow-gold color with a moderate white head and light lacing. Nose is grainy and lightly floral. Tastes like it smells, barley with a bit of hoppy tang and pepper. Finishes with the hops a little more evident and a light, smooth mouthfeel. Very good example of the style!

Comes out of the tap a fairly average clear amber, but it does have a nice, fine-bubbled white head. Aroma is rather weak, malty, and not promising. Flavor is wan but palatable, malty with a good hint of citrus. Texture is smooth and fairly tingly. I am just not a big fan of pilsners.

Poured from an 11.2 oz. bottle into a pils. glass The appearance is very clear with a small white head. Lacing is decent. The nose is of flowers and wheat. Taste is more of the same, with a nice hoppy bitterness throughout, taking over at the finish. Mouthfeel is thin and refreshing with a nice amount of carbonation. Drinkability is high on this one, as it should be. This one is much better than the American lager of the same name. It's a nice once-in-a-while brew.

Decent pils, good malt and biscuit in the aroma, nice golden body, OK head with minimal lace. Medium mouthfeel, full-flavored for a pils, lots of malt and bread, a wee bit of peppery spice, an OK pils.

Czechvar label; no mention of Budweiser anywhere. Nevertheless, this is surprisingly good. I was expecting skunk and grass, and yes, I did receive. However, after I cracked the bottle, I noticed that the label says it has long, long since expired, so it has been in the refrigerator of my "local" bottleshop for some time. If I hadn't seen that old date on the label, I wouldn't have known it has very expired, which leads to believe this might be quite nice when fresh. Ample white foamy head, lots of lacing, shower of carbonation, solid golden color. Clean, crisp taste, some apples in there, slight bittering aftertaste. For the price, this was a great find.
