(750 ml "champagne" bottle, vintage 1997-98). Pours with an enormous lasting head. Cloudy golden colour. Lovely aroma of sour fruits, notes of spices and horse stable. Flavour is fruity, sour but not vinegar, a little tart. Quite dry. Reminds me of a brut champagne. Moreish aftertaste. Yummy!

2017-2018 edition from the Belgian Beer Discovery Box for cancelled Christmas 2020. Lightly hazy golden-orange colour with transparent particles floating all-around, as carbonation is quite intense. The head seemed frothy, bubbly at first, but ended up creamy and very long lasting. Some real nice patchy creamy-foamy lacing is left on the glass. Fresh apple aromas with some gooseberry notes, hints of Belgian sugars and Brett earthiness. Slick mouthfeel with some creaminess from the head. Decent sourness in the taste with the milder apples and berries. Short finish, slightly dry. A Oude Geuze that is fairly easy to drink and all well-blended. Not bug punches in your mouth.

A hazed metallic gold pour with a thin bubbly white ring. The aroma is vinegar, funk, grains, and tart fruit. The flavour is pucker up sour, with some residual sweetness and funk. Highly recommended if you enjoy sours.

Pours a somewhat hazy straw-yellow with a thick and not persistent white head - not very inspiring, but this is the beer’s weakest point. Aroma is quite strong, yeasty with malty and fruity undertones. Flavor is rich and crisp, malty with a good sour-apple component and a touch of hops. Texture is edgy and fizzy, leaving a pleasantly sour aftertaste.

pours a nice cloudy golden color with small sized white head, immediate lacing as it reduced, creamy but with some big bubbles. The aroma is fruit, brett, sour, and funky. The taste is a delicate tartness, definitely citric (expecially lemon), spiciness bringing life on the tongue, also a bit earthy/musty. Dry aftertaste leaves you longing for another sip. The mouthfeel is medium body, lots of carbonation, finishes very dry.

Almost $8 a bottle at Binny's, but Boon has a good name, and I can afford it. The beer pours a very effervescent golden colour with a thin white head. The head was gone by the time I set the empty bottle on the table. The aroma was earthy, funky, with yeast and tart fruit. The flavour was very tart. Very apple-like.

Presentation: It was poured from a green corked and caged 335ml bottle into a tulip glass. There is a best before date of 25-04-2027 on the bottle. Appearance: The body has a hazy golden orange color with lots of beautiful Champaign like carbonation. On top there is a lively, big, fluffy head with a creamy off white color. It fades slowly but hangs on to a thin covering that make some slick lacing on the glass. Smell: The aroma is interesting and complex. In the nose there is notes of apples, apple cider vinegar, light oak notes, wet wool and rose petals. Taste/Mouth Feel: Its flavor is just as complex as the aroma. There is a little bit of astringent citrus with hard apple cider notes that give it a nice sharp sour character. Also there are some floral notes, dry hay and light woody oak notes and next to no hops. The finish has a sharp dry sour oak finish. The body is about medium with lively mouth feel and lively active carbonation. Notes: Outstanding, a very good example of the style.

Corked bottle, vintage 2006-2007, drink best before 18/11/2028. Bottle refermentation.A cloudy deep gold coloured geuze with a huge white head. The aromas are sour, lactic acid, lemon and wood. In the mouth I note a charming sparkling effect and the presence of acid fruits, apples and hops. A very long dry and fruity aftertaste for this very refreshing beer. It's a soft example of a traditional geuze. If your palate is educated to this sour sensation, it's a mervellous pleasure to become the chance to taste it.

Hazy orange colour, mediumsized white foamy head. Sour apples and a bit barnyard in the aroma. Sour fruits in flavour with hints of grass and hay. The aftertaste is dominated by dry fruits and some sourness.

With Valentine's Day dinner at Belgique Gourmand. Boon rhymes with bone, and geuze is usually spelled gueuze. Knowing this, one gets the idea that this beer was born to be unique. The sour smell, pungent taste, and lingering sour aftertaste are all suited for an acquired palate. The overall score is higher than any component attribute because it's a really good beer I just don't like. Unique is not the word! If you are ready for a sour treat, this is a great example of the style!
