His journey started in the southern region of Wallonia. If you ask him today, he’ll tell you stories about walking through the small town of Pipaix, discovering local Farmhouse Ales. The spicy yet refreshing character of these handcrafted ales piqued his curiosity. From there, he headed north to Flanders, a region well-known for its sour Belgian Red Ales. These refreshingly tart, deep red ales have an unmistakable taste that you have to experience for yourself. Over the next 20 years, whenever he returned to Belgium, our brewmaster found himself drawn to these two styles. After sharing a couple of ales with old friends, he got the idea to blend the spice character of a Farmhouse Ale with the tartness of a Belgian Red Ale to create our Farmhouse Red Ale. His interpretation blends grains and specialty malts for a pleasantly tart finish.

An orange reddish color with a white head. The aroma contains some some dark fruits and cherries with a big floral note. It has that belgian yeasty smell to it if that makes sense. The flavor is rather dry with some cherries and citrus. There is a spice note to it also. The finish contains a hint of tartness but nothing like most Flanders Reds. Overall this really isnt that bad and I bet without the Blue Moon label it would get higher scores.

Had as Short Straw Farmhouse Red. Pours a nice clear mahogany with a fine-bubbled pale tan head. Malty aroma has hints of fruit and cloves. Malty flavor has a cloves overtone plus a note of apple. Lively flavor dances on the tongue and leaves a lasting tingle. You won’t feel shorted by this one.

Pours out a clear dark gold color with a thick long lasting foamy whit head. The aroma is faint but has a slight fruit smell. The mouthfeel is solid but not thick. The taste has a slight amount of sour cherry.

A reddish tinged amber colored beer with a two fingered frothy textured, very light beige head. There's good hang time on the head and a thick creamy cap is what is left. Bold banana nose. Add wheat, spices to that banana presence in the tasting. Full bodied and creamy.

Part of their "Expressionist Collection", now under the name "Short Straw - Farmhouse Red Ale". Enjoyed in Vegas. Pour a clean deep amber colour with an off-white head, good retention and thick creamy lace. Actually a nice different scent with mild wheat, bananas, lemon sourness, hoppy soap perfumes and light roasted grains. The darker malts are in the taste as well, and milder, with light caramel, sourness, berries, coffee, chocolate and the soapy hops. An interesting blend of red ale, Flemish sour and fruit ale.

Smells clean, but corny. No discernible sourness in the nose. Crystal clear copper color, whispy head. Very watery mouthfeel, hints of a saison yeast, zero sourness. This is not good.

I wouldn't really call this a saison. More like a red or amber ale. Tastes a lot like the regular Blue Moon Belgian White, but more malty and not as citrusy. I like it better than some of the other recent new seasonals, but not enough to go out of the way for it. Decided that I like the original Belgian White the best...although it all kind of tastes like macro at this point.

Pours reddish brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is of yeast, malt and ripe fruit. Body is medium and smooth. Taste is slightly sour and tart, with cherries and caramel malt provide some balance. Overall its not bad, a 'good' beer for Blue Moon.

A surprisingly pleasant floral, fruity aroma. Slightly tast berry sweetness too, ditto for the flavor, with a little caramel malt. Slightly tangy finish. the feel is a bit light and prickly, but really, this is better than expected. Winter mixer.

Pours clear orange / amber with a moderate head that dissipates quickly and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is light tart berries, flowers (hibiscus), and a little bit of spice. The taste is slightly sweet and has a light tanginess. The carmamel malty taste is there but mostly in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium in body, slightly creamy, good carbonation. Balanced in sweetness and tartness.
