PIGS ASS PORTER - Our award winning dark ale which is an orignal London style, lighter in body than a stout but with the same alcohol content. Brewed with pale, crystal, chocolate and black malts to create a creamy, smooth, roasted, slightly chocolate tasting ale with a bit of hoppiness in the finish. The name comes from the fact that after brewing, the mash is given to a local farmer and there can't be anything better than spent grain from brewing for fattening up a pig.

Pretty average across the board. Medium roast, coffee, cjocolate, hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Nothing special but not bad either.............................

Thank you Eckers. You've got to like non beer geek friends who stop to pick up local beer for you when they travel. This is a very average porter. Lots of roasted malt and coffee notes in both aroma and flavor. Just not an exciting beer.

A sourish light aroma of more grass than anything. Looked more like a clear brown than a porter, pretty pale but not tan. Mouthfeel was too light and fizzy. Flavor was actually not terrible or off-putting, some roast, coffee notes.

Bottle courtesy of kyzr. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Smells of coffee, a hint of pepper. Tastes of sweet malt and a touch of coffee. Bitter finish.

In its pint glass, color was as dark as night, held up to the light it is actually a deep dark brown. Just a thin ring of brownish foam floating on top. Roasted malts all over the place. Nice strong aromas of toasted nuts, strong and clean. Taste is full-bodied, dark caramel, burnt flavour, but no chocolate like I was kind of expecting. A good brew that can hold its own, even though I’m sure most people try it only because of the name. Too bad we couldn't actually get in to the bewery for a tour and tasting.

Dark brown, but not even close to black. Bit of head, but not very thick, alright for a porter. Quite mild roastiness and a surprising, but not out-of-place hoppiness that balances well with the other mild flavors. This beer is fine, but not outstanding. Body could be more full and thicker, maybe more sweetness and stronger notes all around, including alcohol. Certainly better than a pig's ass, but not even close to the standards like Anchor.
