Beau’s Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara and Denmark’s gypsy brewer Anders Kissmeyer have teamed up again to create Old Skål, a tart, fruit-infused and barrel-aged brown ale. This limited-edition beer was created to say “Cheers!” (Skål in Danish) to Beau’s 10th Birthday. Raise a glass and help us celebrate 10 great years! Oud Bruin is a style of beer that originates in the Flanders region of Belgium, typically aged for a long period and fermented with wild yeast and bacteria. Dates, maple syrup and a residency in pinot noir barrels have added complexity to this collaborative creation, which was brewed during Beau’s Oktoberfest in 2012.

Thanks to PaleAleRider for this one from the brewery. Stamped 2888JUN1016. Pours a hazy deep amber colour with a big frothy beige head that stays forever as the carbonation is quite lively. Sour nose with some cherries, hints of dates and licorice. The taste is sour, but not too crazy. Basically dies quickly. Slightly tarty with the yeast. Mildly dry. Hints of fruits, rustiness and medical notes. Decent Oud Bruin, but lacking a flavour punch. Alcohol is well-hidden as always for Beau's.

Picked up a bottle at the brewery during their 10th Anniversary birthday bash. Pours a fairly large foamy bubbly beige head and has a murky amber brownish appearance. Some decent sticky lacing. Aromas of barley malts, a bit smokey. Flavours are definitely on the sour side. A little acidic, some notes of raisins, dried fruit. Some toasted malts and resin. Has a drying and slightly tarty mouthfeel. Quite good.
