If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

355 ml bottle, from Fakta Hirtshals. BB date is hard to read, but probably 25.03.2014. Slightly hazy deep golden to amber colour, moderate to low head, slightly off-white. Strong and unpleasant aroma of stale orange marmalade and rotting fruits and vegetables. Distinctly hoppy and resinous flavour, better than the aroma, not too sweet, with a solid bitterness in the finish.

Amber pour with an offwhite head. Fair amount of lace. Floral aroma with some pine and grass. Mild hop bitterness with a sweet finish. Nice beer overall.

Seven across the board. Always been impressed with Ballast Point, Hope they don't change since they sold out. Ok beer but nowhere near their best. Cheers and have fun.

Pours a pretty golden amber with a thick pale buff head. Malty aroma has a hoppy overtone. Flavor has a strongly hoppy overtone that is more woody than evergreen, fairly bitter, with malty and citrus notes and a hint of caramel. Firm, smooth mouthfeel has fizz to spare. Get big-eyed with this one! (But if you get a little too big-eyed, please take MARTA or call a taxi.)

The third in my "Pick Your Own 6-Pack Sampler". Pours an a golden amber color with a small white head. Candied citrus aromas, pine and sweet biscuits on the nose. Tastes as it smells, starting with the pine, which is more prevalent in the taste than the smell. The sweet bready malt follows with the dry, bitter hops finishing the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is full and pleasing. Ballast Point is a new name for me, having tried Sculpin recently. Not quite as good as Sculpin (or as expensive), but a very good, West Coast style IPA.

Golden amber pour with a meringue white head, ample lacing. Big pine and citrus hops nose and initial flavors, big bold and bitter, big on the malts too to help offset all those damn hops. Bigger and brasher than Sculpin, but more harsh and unbalanced. Still a worthy IPA. Not for the timid.

Brand new to my area in the last few weeks but without all the hype that follows Sculpin. Still a very solid IPA though. Whereas Sculpin is very tropical, Big Eye has a more in-your-face bitterness with a pine and citrus hop kick. At $5.00 cheaper per six pack than Sculpin, I would be more apt to pick this up on a regular basis.

Sampled this the same night, after their Sculpin IPA. They are very similar, but the Sculpin just has a better flavor/balance. This is decent though (still on the hoppy side). Kind of forgetable with so many out there. Probably a pass on this one in the future.

An orange tinged amber colored beer with a two finger foamy textured, off white head that rises above. There's pretty good hang time. Settles into a thin ringlet. The nose is muted grassuness. More citric hops in the tasting. Well balanced with a caramel malt. Moderate bodied, smoothness.

Big and bold in every respect and enjoyable all the way around. Drawn deep caramel-amber with a faint head but what was there had decent retention. Nice lacing. Pleasantly intense floral aroma and soppy-piney flavor. Nice crisp bitter finish.
