Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984. Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat. The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

pours a yellow / amber color with a soft white head, small bubble, some lacing, moderate retention. The aroma is light and grainy with a mild very mild bitterness. The taste is citrus, sweet malt, and fruit are present. The mouthfeel is medium to light in body with a grainy aftertaste a mild bitterness, mostly a little sweetness and a decent malt character.

A golden colored beer with a big fluffy textured, white head that has great hang time. Settles eventually into a thin ringlet. Faint nose of citrus and grass. Mostly grassy in tasting. Nothing complex here. But a refreshing light medium bodied beer.

A good summer brew. Reminded me of a Kolsch. Could use a little more flavor. About average all-around (flavor almost a 7 but not quite). Kind of pricey for what it is though. Grabbed a single to sample first, but not really interested in getting again with some better stuff out there.

Generic american wheat ale. Lagerish with a bigger mouthfeel. Little bit on the sweet side, some grass and wheat stew.... It was not crisp or dry or tart in any way, making it flabby and not enjoyable in the long run. Warming, it get positively bloating and thick in a decidedly unenjoyable way. Mediocre beer.

Not bad but not good, either. This beer pours a bright yellow-gold color with a puffy white head. It smells a lot like a mediocre lager, sorta grain sour. It tastes a bit better with some citric notes and a cleaner malt flavor. I’m still a bit surprised that this is an ale. Drinkable on a hot day and preferable to most BMC lagers, but it’s not a huge step up.

This poured a nice white top,and very good color.I thought it was thin also, not a lot of flavor. This is in style for the American Wheat i would say. They really should stick to the darker beers in my opinion.

Pours a golden color with a big fluffy white head. Good retention produces gobs of lacing. This is a little sweet and citrusy tasting with notes of herbs, grains, grass and light hops. Light and refreshing but still with good flavor. Nothing spectacular but a nice summer beer.

One of my vacation choices... Pours a clear light golden yellow with an thinnish head and moderate lacing. Good carbonation. Weakish aromas of wet wheat, grass, a little fruit and hops. Taste is smooth and easy as should be with a "Summer Beer" with a clean malty base and very slight hops finish.

It's decent if you're a fan of the "summer brews". I've had better and will probably not go for the Anchot on this one again. They have so many great beers, yet this one just falls short in every catagory.
