6.6% Belgian Brown Ale aged 3 months in Calloway Vineyard’s red wine oak barrels with cinnamon, nutmeg (fresh, hand-ground) and Pumpkin. Some special wild yeast gives it a cherry pie tart flavor and the spices are gracefully subtle. The red wine helps with some tang, too.

Different one. Poured a brownish color with small head. Aroma was full of spices, lots of cinnamon. Flavor was lots of grapes and some of the spices although mild. Okay nothing amazing.

On tap at Liars Club. Pours with a deep red body topped by a thin white head with some lacing. It’s sour and vinious with a slight fruitiness and nice pumpkin and spice notes underneath. Light, crisp and dry.

Bottle courtesy of Bu11zeye: Poured a reddish color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention but no lacing. Aroma of oak with some sour notes and some very light cinnamon notes. Taste is dominated by some sour oak notes with some traces of cinnamon. I hardly could trace pumpkin or cloves in here and this beer was dominated by the red wine barrel. Full body with average carbonation. Not really a pumpkin beer but not a great sour either.

Bottle shared by slob. The pour was on the lighter side of red-brown (for the style anyway), very thin head that dissipated to near nothing almost immediately. Aroma was clearly a spiced (nutmeg, cinnamon) up Flemish sour (sour cherries, oak) type deal. Flavor proved out the aroma, yielding a fairly interesting experience, ginger, and red-grapey notes also present (never got the pumpkin, though?). Spices are light enough to make for an interesting concoction here for a spice beer, but in the end I might prefer my straight up sours over the creativity. Body was fairly light to moderate. Carbonation was moderate, about right for what we have here, spicing also adding some zing to the finish. Thanks to Bert for this one, a really cool experience and enjoyable beer if not odd at the same time.

This sour pours a medium orange color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and tart, some spiciness. Medium bodied sour ale. The malts are nutty, pumpkinish and sweet. Yet there is a bunch of oak, some wine vinous ness and some funky tartness. Weird and wonderful beer, it’s a Belgian nut brown, pumpkin beer that’s got the funk. Nice balanced. Good carbonation. Nice. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly tart and funky.
